A Busy Mom’s Weight Loss Journey {Part 2}

Here I am, Month #2 of my weight loss journey with our sponsor Medifast. This is where it gets easier, right? Kind-of yes, and kind-of no.

If you remember my post from last month, I shared that I was selected to participate in a 90 day trial of Medifast in return for sharing my results and experiences. I started off month 1 with a bang! Total loss of 10+ pounds and lots of momentum for keeping it going.

Weight Loss Journey - Featured

Weeks 5-9 are much the same. The plan is truly VERY easy to follow – each day, you eat five Medifast meals and one “Lean and Green” meal that you prepare on your own. I honestly don’t know how much simpler a diet or lifestyle could be!

Here are the pros for this month ::

  1. It’s easy  – grab 5 items before leaving home in the morning, and that’s what you eat all day.
  2. It’s amazing how little food you really need to feel full when you eat smaller portions.
  3. If you follow it, it works!

Here are the cons for this month ::

  1. Because I’m lunch eating at my desk, it makes the days seem really long. I’ve had to try to find errands to run during lunch so that I can get up and away from my computer.
  2. The food is good, but let’s face it – it’s not garlic bread or a grilled cheese on Texas toast.
  3. I am tending to get a little burnt out on the food because I’m literally eating the same 5 things 7 days in a row.

medifastMy biggest obstacle this month was going through a bout of a summer cold. I truly didn’t have the stomach for all the food that I was supposed to eat. And, the scale showed it at my weigh-in. I didn’t lose anything for two weeks, but thank goodness – I didn’t gain! Those weeks showed me that my metabolism really only works when I eat small meals several times a day.

This weekend will be the first true “holiday” that we’ve had since I started on Medifast. And, of all things, we are headed out of town for a wedding. I will be smart with what I eat and not beat myself up if I have a piece of wedding cake. I think that’s fair enough … make good choices, but stay true to your life and occasional {key word: occasional} celebrations!

End of the month – Down 14 pounds total! It’s all worth it.

    Glad it’s working for you, but what happens when you get down to your goal weight and stop eating their meals? Don’t you still have to learn to eat “regular food” in reasonable portions so that you can maintain your weight? Eventually you will eat garlic bread and Texas toast again.

    After my daughter was born, I lost about 20 pounds the slow way: by eating right and moving more. (And by “eating right,” I do NOT mean super-restrictive, low-calorie, low-fat, paleo, or anything like that. Just eating reasonable portion sizes and having a higher proportion of fresh fruits, veggies, and lean meats with a smaller proportion of yummy-but-not-very-healthy foods.) By doing it that way, I learned life-long healthy habits to help me STAY at my goal weight, and never have to “diet” again.
