ABC’s of Me :: Misty

All About Me ::

I am Misty…lover of my family and thankful for God’s gifts in my life.  As a step, adoptive, and biological mom, I never could’ve imagined this ride…it certainly wasn’t what I had planned!  But, it’s more than I could’ve ever dreamed.  Definitely not easy, but what good thing is?  I’m currently in the “throws” of two under 2 AND two teens!  Ha!  Needless to say, I love chocolate…and lots of it.  My addiction to chocolate fuels my need for daily runs to burn those calories and in turn, helps to clear my head of all the mom craziness!  I’m still not exactly sure how to balance it all, but somehow, at the end of each day – everyone is clean, fed, and tucked in bed with love and prayers.  Which means, as a mom, I’m doing okay, right?  Whew!  Being a mom isn’t for the weak at heart, mind, body, or soul!  But my goodness, it’s my favorite job EVER.

Best Thing About Houston ::

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how people in this city LOVE and SUPPORT each other.  It’s my favorite thing.  Hands down.

From my church {Sagemont Church}, to the HOPE group {an infertility support group held out of Lakewood Church and led by the precious Lesli Westfall}, to KSBJ {my favorite Houston radio station}, to my friends and family and even complete strangers…Houstonians are the BEST at encouraging moms and moms-to-be through the good and the bad.  Throughout my struggles and triumphs, I feel lucky that God has had me right here – in this big ‘ole HOT town.

Children of Mine ::

In 2005, I became a full time step-mom by marrying an amazing guy with custody of his two young kids.  I never knew how difficult and at the same time rewarding it would be.  I love these two.  We’ve been through a lot together over the years…Maddi and Mason.  And that cute guy that I love so much…Chuck.

In 2011, after waiting 6 long YEARS and enduring unsuccessful infertility treatments and several failed adoption placements, we finally “grew.”  My miracle-thru-adoption, Levi, changed our world in ways I can’t even begin to describe.  I will be forever grateful to the Lord and Levi’s birth mom for choosing me for the ultimate gift…the privilege of being his mama.  God used my precious, precious boy to heal my aching heart.  I love him SO.

12 months and 11 days later, the shock of my life entered this world in 2012.  My Kate.  After being told by doctors that I would probably never have a biological child, I learned that people are just that – PEOPLE.  Trust God.  He’s got good plans and He knows.  She’s 9 months old now, and I STILL look at her sometimes and think…WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?

    • channing-girl…it’s been a long road. so glad i got to know you at the beginning of this journey of mine, and so glad to be on another journey with you! xo

  3. I just love you and your family. I still remember our first Sunday at Sagemont and during prayer requests you and Chuck shared your heart for a baby and Chuck teared up and my heart broke into a million pieces and ached for you both. And now here we are 3 years later and God has answered those prayers in big and amazing ways I am sure none of us saw coming. You both are such amazing parents and those kiddos all 4 of them are so so lucky to have you guys. SO happy to get to share this journey with you.
