Galveston, TX – 52 miles

Obviously, you can lay on the sand or play in the water, but here are a few other activities ::

  • Visit Moody Gardens and their newly renovated aquarium.
  • Walk around downtown Galveston’s Strand, grab lunch, and enjoy the shops while licking an ice cream cone.
  • Take a walk on the wild side and have some fun on the Pleasure Pier

Brenham, TX – 74 miles

People don’t often think about Brenham until they think about Blue Bell ice cream. So let’s go there first.

Austin, TX – 145 miles

There are a variety of places to visit, walk around, and eat in eclectic Austin, Texas, so after looking into these recommendations, I suggest doing some more research of your own.

  • Take a dip at Barton Springs Pool followed by a little frisbee tossing at Zilker Park to dry off.
  • Stroll around South Congress and visit shops, grab a bite to eat, and end your trip by watching the bats exiting from under famous bat bridge.
  • Not just for kids: visit the well-known Toy Joy to peruse the floor to ceiling collections, which includes items that might help you remember the good ol’ days.

New Braunfels, TX – 175 miles

Most people associate New Braunfels with its German culture. I personally think of fun in the water!

  • Spend the day floating the Comal River, and on the way home stop for a bite to eat. This makes for a perfectly tiring day for kids and parents alike.
  • Combine your love of water with roller coasters and visit the first Schlitterbahn Water Park. Then end your day relaxing on the lazy river.
  • Technically, the Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch are between New Braunfels and San Antonio, but there’s plenty more to do in San Antonio. Tour the ranch in your car and encounter animals up close!

Waco, TX – 184 miles

Waco isn’t just the home of Baylor University. There are some pretty cool things going on in this city!

San Antonio, TX – 190 miles

It seems nearly impossible that this much family fun can be crammed into one city. This is another place you should do some extra research on later.

  • Go all out at Six Flags over Fiesta Texas. Ride all of the rides!
  • Take in a bit of history at The Alamo, where there are a variety of tour options.
  • Enjoy the RiverWalk at your leisure. Grab some food, take a boat ride, and enjoy the sights.
  • Or, make it a long weekend with these tips on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do!

One of my favorite things to do on road trips is stop along the way. I love exploring and photographing small towns, like Wimberley and Blanco!
