Game Day Treats and Eats

Game Day Eats and Treats

Football season is finally here, and if your family is anything like mine – then you are sooo happy that it is! I mean, what’s not to love about football season…family, friends, food, fall, and football. I can just hear the angels singing as I type.

Food is the second most important of all the F’s, or at least it is in my family. We used to have huge spreads of food for each game, but since we added a little one to the mix, we try to keep things quick and easy. We enjoy watching the game from the comfort of our own living room, but if you’re a die-hard tailgater – these game day recipes will work for you too because they can easily be re-created at the tailgate.

Veggies and Dip

Grab your favorite veggies, some sour cream, and a box of onion soup mix. Combine sour cream and soup mix a few hours before game time. Stick it back in the fridge and let those spices really integrate with the sour cream and make for an even better dipping experience. You can also add some potato chips for even more dipping fun!

Cheddar Bacon Ranch Pull Apart Bread

Also lovingly known as, “crack bread,” because of it’s addictive tendencies, if you haven’t tried this…you must do so ASAP! The basics are as follows…

  1. Slice sourdough loaf intro grid shape as pictured above
  2. Melt butter, mix it with ranch packet, and then pour in crevices of bread
  3. Stuff bread with cheese and bacon to your heart’s content
  4. Bake at 375 until cheese is melted and bacon is crisp, typically about 10 mins
  5. Pull apart and enjoy!

Game Day Wings

My husband can’t watch a game without some hot wings by his side. He tends to take control of these, and thank goodness, because hot oil and my clumsy self just do not get along. He spices the wings with salt, pepper, and a little “slap ya mama” seasoning before frying them for about 20 minutes. Then he tosses with some hot sauce and a little butter. It’s super simple, but oh so delicious!  {Or for a healthy alternative, be sure to check out Jenn’s grilled wing recipe too!

No-Bake Cookies

We can’t forget about dessert! Although, to be honest, I often do forget about it. This past Saturday was one of those times that I hadn’t even thought about making something sweet to eat while we sat down to watch the game. Luckily, I had all the necessities on hand to make the world’s easiest batch of cookies…no-bake cookies, of course! Growing up, these were a family favorite and have become one in my little family as well. For the complete ins and outs of the recipe head here, but keep reading below for the basics…

  1. Bring sugar, milk, butter, and cocoa to a boil for about a minute
  2. Remove from heat, then add oats, peanut butter, and vanilla
  3. Drop spoonfuls onto parchment paper and let cool for 15-30 minutes
  4. Try and stop yourself from eating every last one

These are just a few of my game day favorites. I’d love to hear about yours in the comments below. I’m always trying out new things and would love to add some recipes to my list for this football season!

  1. We like to make homemade soft pretzels! Then a super easy beer cheese dip for dipping. Everyone gets to twist their own pretzel, so kids and adults alike get involved in making their own little work of art!
