I’ve Got 99 Problems, But a Peepee Teepee Ain’t One

There are few things in life that I’m 100 percent sure of, but my desire to be a girl mom has always been one of them. I grew up with two brothers, my dad, and a mom who is a self-proclaimed tomboy; let’s just say there weren’t a lot of “girls just wanna have fun” moments throughout my childhood. My mom eventually gave into my girly desires, and we started bonding over shopping and pedicures as I grew older. Those times with my mom became, and still are, some of my favorite times together. My brothers and my dad didn’t want any part of it, so I had her all to myself. However, being the third and youngest child, these moments didn’t come around often. I would have loved to have a sister to share all of these moments with, but I knew from a young age that it wasn’t happening. And that’s when I knew I wanted to be a girl mom someday.

Now please understand, I am just grateful to be a mom.  Period.  But after some back and forth banter between the HMB Team, one of the “boy moms” and I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite things about being a mom to our respective side of the playing field.  So check out MY top five reasons I’m grateful to be a girl mom, and check back tomorrow to see what Jenn loves about being a boy mom too!

Grateful to be a Girl Mom

All Things Girly

I love fixing hair, painting nails, playing princess dress-up, and all things girly. We don’t leave the house without a bow, and I’ve given my toddler more manicures and pedicures than I care to admit. I dream about the day my daughters have their first dance, and we get to shop for a fancy dress and get their hair and makeup done.

I Always Wanted a Sister

To this day, I am a little envious of the special bond sisters hold with each other, and I am so thankful to now have two little girls that are already forming a special sisterly bond. They will always have a best friend who has gone through the same life experiences as them. They may not always get along, but they will always have each other to share in the ups and downs of life.

The Opportunity to Raise Smart & Confident Women

We live in a world where women still aren’t viewed as equal to men. Sadly, some people still think of women as being less important and less intelligent. I’m glad I get the chance to help teach my girls differently. We will teach them that they are strong and capable of accomplishing anything they decide to do and that their beauty is only a small part of who they are — not ALL that they are.

Built in Best Friends

My mom and I are the best of friends. We laugh, we fight, we love, and we cry. But when life is great or life is hard, she is always the first one I call. I am enjoying every second of being a mama to my tiny little girls, but I also can’t wait to be a best friend to them when they’re adults. I can’t wait to dance with them at their weddings and hold their hands as they become mothers. I hope that when they’re my age, I will be their first call to celebrate a new achievement or just to talk about their day.

Been There, Done That

The best part of being a girl mom is that I’ve been through everything they will go through. I understand what it’s like to get your period for the first time, when the pregnancy test reads positive, and everything in between. I know what it’s like to have your heart broken and how it feels to walk across the stage at graduation. Undoubtedly, my girls will experience things that I didn’t but, for the most part, I will have a deeper understanding of what they’re going through as a woman because I’ve gone through it too.

If you can’t tell by now, I love being a girl mom. My husband and I have discussed whether or not we’ll go for a boy, but we’re both convinced that if we do, we’ll be blessed with another little girl. And not so secretly, I think we’d both be over the moon if that was the case.
