Houston Holiday Light Displays & Tree Lightings

Make some hot cocoa, load the kiddos up in the car, and venture out to one {or ALL} of the amazing light displays in and around Houston.  Whether you make it to the very first tree lighting or stop by and see the last few twinkles as the holidays come to an end, be sure and make time for this magical holiday tradition!

Moody Gardens – Festival of Lights {Now through January 8th | 6 – 10pm} 
Enjoy over a million lights along with animated displays, ice skating, nightly entertainment, an amazing Arctic Slide, ice sculptures, and pictures with Santa. We also love that they are committed to giving back by offering 2 for 1 admission on “Food Drive Thursdays” when you bring a non-perishable item to donate. Couldn’t be easier!

Santa’s Wonderland {Now through January 1st | Times vary} 
Holidays with a Texas flare, y’all! Just a short drive outside of Houston in College Station, you can take in the amazing views via hayride, horse & carriage, or in the comfort of your own car. Texas Country talent will be on hand performing throughout the season which is sure to put you and yours in the holiday spirit too.

Galleria Tree Lights {Now through January} 
Before you rush through the Houston Galleria to complete your family’s shopping, take a moment to pause at the glory of the 55 foot tree located centrally in the ice skating arena. Adorned with over 450,000 twinklers and 5,000 outrageous ornaments, you can’t help but feel the joy of the Christmas spirit!

Magical Winter Lights {November 18th – January 8th | Times vary} 
Back again this year, this stunning light festival bases it’s light designs from Chinese lantern structures and magically transforms them into larger-than-life landmarks from around the world. Besides the lights, your family can also enjoy cultural performances, amusement park rides, photos with Santa, and delicious food.

Zoo Lights {November 18th – January 15th | Times vary} 
Houston Zoo Lights returns with over 2.5 million lights! Plan to stay for the yummy treats including s’mores, funnel cakes, and sticky buns. If you are a bargain hunter, take advantage of the value nights, typically Monday through Thursday evenings.

Enchanted Promenade {November 22nd – February 19th | Dusk – 11pm} 
Discovery Green is hosting a gorgeous display of lights designed by TILT, a French artistic studio whose work focuses on light and space. Enchanted Promenade comes to life through color-changing LED lighting. At night, the stamens grow brighter with blazing red light that shows through its petals and scatters warm light throughout. Head to the Discovery Green’s website to get a good look at what it’s all about!

Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony {November 25th | 11am – 1pm} 
Join the city in welcoming The Nutcracker back to the stage by kicking off the event with their annual Tree Lighting, ceremoniously presided over by the Sugar Plum Fairy. Enjoy local choirs and musicians with yummy holiday treats, and bask at the chance to meet the costumed castmembers from Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker.

Sugar Land Holiday Lights at Constellation Field {November 25th – January 8th | Times vary} 
Back by popular demand at the home of the Skeeters – bigger and better than ever with over 2.5 million sparkling lights in 8 different themed areas. Tickets on sale now!

Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting {Thursday, November 24th | 4pm}
After the turkey and dressing, head uptown for this Houstonian tradition! Enjoy the sounds of holiday music, and if you have room, take advantage of the seasonal concessions, proceeds to benefit “Be an Angel” and the Houston Area Urban League. The big man himself flies in at 7pm, kicking off the illumination of 80 gorgeous trees on Post Oak Boulevard.

Houston Historical Holiday Lights Tours {Every day in December | Times vary with length of tour} 
This fantastic opportunity includes 9 different holiday light tours ranging in length from 3 to 7 hours long. Wind through some of Houston’s most historical neighborhoods or choose a walking tour to burn off your Christmas treats. Check their website to find out exact meeting locations and contact information.

Sugar Land’s Annual Tree Lighting {December 1st | 5 – 8pm} 
This stunning 40 foot tree is not to be missed! And who can resist dancing elves?  Entertainment and activities are completely FREE to the public!

Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting {December 2nd | 6 – 8pm}
Ring in the season with the 97th Mayor’s Holiday Celebration and tree lighting at Hermann Square. Enjoy the thousands of glowing LED lights on the holiday tree and musical entertainment. Pssst… Don’t forget to exchange a new, unwrapped toy for a light up Santa hat at the Salvation Army booth. Proceeds benefit the Greater Houston Area Command.

Kingwood’s Annual Tree Lighting {December 3rd | 10am – 6pm} 
Head north for “Christmas in the Park!” This annual festival attracts dozens of local vendors sure to get you in the shopping mood, and pictures with Santa are a must! Wrapping up the event, the Town Center Christmas Tree will be lit at 6pm.

Lights in The Heights  {December 10th | 6 – 9pm}
Come out to The Heights for the best neighborhood Christmas festival in Houston! Tow your kids around the route which runs on Euclid and Woodland from Studemont to Houston Ave. See performers on porches and walking down the street. You might spot Santa and Ms. Claus too! {This gets very crowded so make sure you plan ahead for parking!}
