It’s the month of LOVE, Houston mamas! And in that spirit, we have compiled a fantastic list of family-friendly events with love from us to YOU!! While you’re at it, just don’t forget to check out specific events just for you too — as you completely deserve to be pampered during this month. And unless you live under a rock, you “may” have heard that the Super Bowl is descending upon Houston on February 5th. There are so many events for the young and young at heart to experience during this {almost} once in a lifetime opportunity, so be sure to check out our family-friendly guide to the Big Game too! As we move from winter and transition into spring-time weather, we hope you enjoy exploring our beautiful metropolis, from Galveston to The Woodlands and everywhere in between. {Insert all the heart eye emojis and xoxo’s!}

Now through May 28th | {check website for times} ::  Mummies of the World at Houston Museum of Natural Science

Take in the largest exhibition of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled at HMNS this winter. This breathtaking exhibit features actual mummies … some that are even 4,500 years old.  HMNS beautifully tells the story of the mummies and mummification through state-of-the-art multimedia, hands-on interactive stations, and cutting-edge 3-D animation in a both educational and fun excursion for the family.

February 2nd | 11am – 5pm :: Meet the Tooth Fairy

Join The Woodlands Children’s Museum for a very special guest appearance by the Tooth Fairy! Kicking off Dental Health Month, Dr. Judith Ragsdale will also be on hand to discuss dental issues and healthy habits with the kiddos.

February 2nd – 8th | 5 – 9pm :: Tackling Tough Numbers with the Children’s Museum of Houston

Houston’s only children’s Super Bowl party will kick off during their Free Family Night on Thursday, February 2nd with a week-long of interactive activities. Check their website for more details on performance times and other activities during this exciting week.

February 4th | 8:30 – 11am :: Cleft Smiles 5k Family Fun Run & Walk

Support Operation Smile, a non-profit organization that provides cleft surgeries to the poorest areas in our world. Race will be held at Rob Fleming Park in The Woodlands. A little fresh air with the fam bam for a great cause? Yes, please! Register here {$20 – $35}.

February 4th | 9am – Noon :: Taste of Katy Chili Bowl

Kick off the big football weekend at Rhodes Stadium in Katy for an amateur chili cook-off competition! This FREE event will include live music, kids activities, a silent auction, food trucks, and even some celebrity appearances. Immediately following the cook-off will be a Celebrity Flag Football Game {$20 / ticket} … and then an after party at No Label Brewery from 4pm – 8pm {$15/ticket}.

February 4th | 10am – 12:30pm :: Lotsa Chocolate Parent & Child Cooking Class

What better way to start off the month of love than with making yummy chocolate confections for your littlest loves? Learn how to craft white chocolate pretzels, hot chocolate cake, specialty coated popcorns, and other delicious treats. Tickets are $90 and cover the cost of the class for one parent & one child, ages 7-17.

February 4th & 5th | 10am – 6pm :: Lunar New Year at the Viat Hoa Center

Welcome the “Year of the Fire Rooster” at the largest Lunar New Year celebration in Texas, held at the Viet Hoa Center in Beltway Plaza. On hand will be lion dances, fireworks, spectacular food and drink, plus live musical and dance performances. Did we mention it’s completely FREE?!?

February 9th – 12th | {check website for specific days & times} :: Sesame Street LIVE! Elmo Makes Music

NRG Arena welcomes Elmo to Houston, complete with special appearances by Big Bird and other popular cast members too. Through this interactive show, children learn that everyone can enjoy beautiful music together. Sunny Seat ticket packages are available, along with exclusive meet ‘n greets before the show. February 9th | 6:30 – 11pm :: 12th Annual Girlfriend’s Giggle

Fort Bend mamas, you won’t want to miss this ultimate PJ party with your best girls! Sample food from the area’s top restaurants, participate in a silent auction, and dance the night away with a smashing DJ. Even better, all proceeds go to the Fort Bend Women’s Center. Find tickets here.

February 10th – 12th | 5pm Friday to Noon on Sunday :: Mother & Son Weekend at Camp Olympia

Camp Olympia has the perfect opportunity for moms and sons to get away from it all by spending quality time together in the great outdoors, creating new memories and having fun. The weekend is packed with many fun activities for campers ages 5-12 and ones that both moms and sons can enjoy together! Hurry … registration ends SOON!

February 11th – 12th | {check website for times} :: Monster Jam at NRG

Get ready to start those engines as Monster Jam 2017 once again returns to Houston. Featuring new trucks like Earth Shaker and Megalodon. Not your traditional truck racing by far, as huge Monster Jam trucks fly over 30 feet in the air to the delight of the crowds and kiddos alike. Buy tickets now.

February 11th | 11am & 2pm :: “How I Became a Pirate” with Main Street Theatre

Based on the popular book by Melinda Long, join Captain Braid Beard and Jeremy Jacob on the voyage of a lifetime. Buy tickets online here for a swashbuckling good time.  {Pssst…  Childen must be three years or up though!}

February 11th | 10am – 5pm :: WinterFest 2017 at the Rosenberg Railroad Museum

The Garden at Rosenberg Railroad Museum is ready to celebrate with you and your family for this fun winter event! Expect crafts, games, inflatables, and SNOW to play in. Museum will be an open house. Tickets start at $8 and children 2 and under are FREE.

February 11th | 1 – 3pm :: Wade Smith Book Reading

The Children’s Museum will host former Texans Star Wade Smith for a special reading of his book, “Smitty Hits the Books.” Written for children on how to create a game plan for school, while still pursuing your dreams. Event will take place at the Brown Auditorium.

February 13th | 5 – 8pm :: Galentine’s Night with Birds Barbershop

Special for our mamas… Featuring complementary bubbly, fun prizes, and lady beats by DJ Girlfriend {of course!}. Our friends at Birds are offering a special Verb Hydrating Mask treatment and blowout for $30 during the party, which includes a complimentary bottle of the mask treatment to take home{total value $44}. February 18th | 10am – Noon :: Carnival Soiree with Children’s Learning Adventure

Mark your calendars, prepare for some fun, and get ready to join Houston Moms Blog at Children’s Learning Adventure – Riverstone for a Carnival Soiree! This FREE event will be packed with fun as you and your children have the opportunity to explore Children’s Learning Adventure and enjoy all that their state of the art facility has to offer. Activities include :: bowling, video games, cooking in a professional grade kitchen, arts & crafts, dancing, carnival eats & drinks {popcorn, cotton candy, etc}, swag bags, and giveaways too! February 19th | 3:30 – 5pm :: HMB Play Date with Goldfish Swim School – West Houston

February 24th – 26th | {check website for times} :: Houston National Invitation Gymnastics Event

Looking for a unique day trip full of exciting gymnastics competition? Then head down to Moody Gardens for the 23rd annual Houston National Invitation. Over 3,500 athletes will be competing, ages 6 all the way up to the nation’s top Olympic and junior gymnasts. Tickets start at $20, and children 4 and under are FREE.

February 25th | 9am :: Graeme’s Run at No Label Brewery – Congenital Heart Defect Awareness

Support the fight against Congenital Heart Defects with this family-friendly run {5K and 1 mile walk} at Katy’s own and HMB’s personal fave No Label Brewery. Participants 21+ will be eligible for 2 drink tickets at the conclusion of the run. Chances to win amazing raffle prizes, enjoy fantastic fare from well-known food trucks, inflatables for the kids, face painting, balloon animals, and more. February 25th | 9am – 6pm :: Junk Hippy at Fort Bend County Fairgrounds

Cult phenomenon Junk Hippy will take over the Ft. Bend County Fairgrounds for this one-day only event – featuring vendors of vintage and handmade goods, along with food trucks, and live music. Tickets are just $5, and children 13 and under are FREE.

February 25th | 10am – 6pm :: Levy Park Grand Re-Opening

Park lovers unite! Levy Park will celebrate their grand re-opening of their new and improved green space in Houston. The day long activity round up will include a farmer’s market, Tai Chi, yoga, music, food trucks, and so much more. The new and improved space now has a pavilion, putting green, dog park, community gardens, and a huge 1 acre playground for the kiddos.

February 25th – 26th | 9am – 5pm :: Vintique Flea Spring 2017 Market

Vintique Flea is a curated indoor marketplace of vintage, industrial, antiques, mid-century modern, food trucks, and more. They have local food vendors … and just for the grown-ups, a bar on site too! The market is located at Silver Street Studios {2000 Edwards Street} in the loop, and general admission is just $5.

February 28th | Noon :: Rodeo Roundup

Y’all… It’s almost rodeo season! Kick up your boots and get ready to celebrate Houston’s most iconic event with Mayor Sylvester Turner at City Hall. Meet volunteers, hear the city’s proclamation on Rodeo Time, and don’t forget your camera for picture opps with a live Longhorn Steer. Oh, and we hear there will be free lunch and a soft drink too. Let’s get this boot stompin’ party started!

Meagan is a Dallas native who has lived in the Katy area for over a decade. She kicked a soccer ball all the way to Louisiana to attend college at her family’s alma mater of LSU, where she promptly fell in love with a Texas Aggie in Baton Rouge for an internship. After swimming back to Texas following Hurricane Katrina, Matt and Meagan fell in love with the Houston area and now couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
