3 Ways to Incorporate Kindness Into Your Everyday Life

Regardless of who you are or what you believe, kindness is a virtue we as moms can all stand behind. Kindness makes the world a better place. A random act of kindness is an unexpected gesture that can brighten someone’s day … and bring you a nugget of joy in turn. Random acts of kindness can turn a bad day around, give someone hope, or make someone smile.

Random Acts of Kindness :: 3 Ways to Incorporate Kindness Into Your Everyday Life | Houston Moms Blog

February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and I encourage you to seek a way to reach out to another. In fact, here are three ways to inspire you to go beyond this one recognized day and incorporate kindness in to your every day life…

1.} Read about kindness.

2.} Watch about kindness.

  • Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Vol. 1, Episode 6: “Friends Help Each Other”
  • My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Season 3, Episode 4: “One Bad Apple”
  • Arthur, Season 15, Episode 8: “Muffy’s Classic Classy Club/Best Enemies”
  • Clifford, Episode: “And Birdy Makes Three”
  • Sesame Street, Season 47, Episode 1, “The Kindness Kid”

3.} Practice kindness.

  • Donate clothes and toys to a local women’s shelter.
  • Bake something for a neighbor.
  • Donate books to a doctor’s or dentist’s office.
  • Hold the door for someone behind you.
  • Make blessing bags and hand out {gloves, thermal socks, beef sticks, crackers, candy bars, toothpaste, toothbrush, wipes, deodorant, snacks, and other items}.
  • Carry a box of granola bars in your glove box for folks you may pass by that could use a snack.
  • Leave a note and a treat in your mailbox for your mail carrier.
  • Write a thank you note to your teacher.
  • Leave a note on random cars.
  • At a Redbox, leave a little bag of candy with a note: “Here’s some treats to enjoy with your movie!”
  • Leave a dollar in the dollar bins at Target with a note.
  • Put extra change in a parking meter.
  • Call/FaceTime with a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while.
  • Pay for a stranger’s coffee.
  • Leave a letter in a library book.
  • If your child’s birthday is coming up, ask guests to bring supplies that can be donated to an animal shelter or non-perishable goods for a food bank.
  • Create a holiday to celebrate someone you love, for example, “Aunt Appreciation Day.”
  • Put a note in a family member’s lunch.

What random acts of kindness do you and your family practice?  Let’s keep the list going!
