I interrupt your holiday planning to talk about weddings. I know, right?! So random. But I need a Black Friday/Cyber Monday/why can’t I find that Frozen castle in the city of Houston break.
To give you some background, Tyrone and I got married in August. Fun, albeit hot, times. My dress was nice. It wasn’t expensive, or huge, but it was nice and it fit and well – now it’s just in my closet.
{This was at the Brazos Bookstore on Bissonnet!}
My mom got married in a courthouse. Plus it was 198x, so I’m pretty sure her dress would have had those lace sleeves that was all the rage back then. At least that’s what the internet tells me when I search 80’s wedding dress. Taking that into consideration, I seriously doubt sleeveless gowns will be in style 20 some odd years from now. And my daughter won’t even wear the same black Converse as I do NOW, so I can’t hold on to the dress thinking that she’ll wear it down the aisle. Right?
I have a lovely headband that is nice enough to be timeless but also small enough to fit in a necklace box. I have my custom made Converse. I have the pictures – plus the fact she was there and in the pictures ought to be enough memories.
So what do I do with it? When I visited The Heights, I saw some lovely resale shops that would probably take it. I could donate it to a local church. I’ve also seen that some places will take slightly worn gowns and make clothes for preemie babies. What do you think I should do??
And where’s your wedding dress? Did you trash it? Is it still hanging up in your closet? Are you saving it or just haven’t figured out what to do? Help me!
…..and here are my Converse – because I know you want to see them.
I think you should keep it ‘in case’ your daughter wants to use it or even just a piece of it in her gown. It’s a nice heirloom and I personally wish I could’ve seen my mother’s dress IRL. One of my grandmother’s kept hers and while none of us could wear it because it’s so tiny, it’s pretty cool to see. Also, I think your dress is pretty timeless. Very simple and elegant, unlike the big poofy sleeves of the 80s
You could take a small piece of it and have a wedding dress necklace made. Let me explain, on Etsy I have seen a necklace that has a small piece wrapped or sealed to make a pendant you could wear as a necklace. The rest of the dress you could make a shadow box with that includes moments from the big day. I’ve also thought that a “wedding dress” quilt like the tshirt quilts might be neat.
