7 Occasions When I’m Thankful For My Husband

My husband and I are definitely a team in all aspects of our marriage, whether completing household chores, arranging travel plans, and especially when it comes to being parents. There are parenting responsibilities I’m good at, and there are others where he’s just the one for the job. We have our strengths, and we recognize that while sometimes together is harder, together is better. We are a great team when it comes to parenting, and I’ll be the first to admit that he is so much better at me in quite a few areas!

7 Occasions When I’m Thankful for My Husband

Family Picture Day :: No one on the planet can make my boys laugh like my husband can. I can play peek-a-boo and make silly faces all day long, and all I get in return is the biggest pout they can muster. But then…  Daddy swoops in and does a fake sneeze, and they start giggling like nothing I’ve ever seen, resulting in the cutest pictures!

On Vacation :: When we are spending the night away from home and the pack and play has to be set up, I don’t even pretend I know what to do. I lose my temper in a hot second trying to set that contraption up. Every time we are on a trip, I am so thankful that he can figure out how to pop up that portable bed, because it isn’t as easy as it looks. Easy assembly? Yeah right!

When Discussing Body Parts :: When my son asks me, “Mommy, why does my penis get big when I go pee-pee?” or “Mommy, why do you got boobies?” I immediately call in my husband for backup. I direct all boy body part conversations directly to Daddy!

Dinnertime :: I can use all of my best ideas to get my kids to try certain foods, but when Daddy suggests they do a magic trick and make the food disappear in their belly, they eat it up! Other times, he will grab their fork and pretend it’s an airplane going in for a landing, and once again, they’ll eat whatever he is giving them. It makes for a pretty entertaining dinner time in our house!

Science :: I married my husband knowing full well that he’d be the parent helping with the science fair, and I’d be the one operating the hot glue gun on the “100th Day of School” project. Science was never my strong suit, and while I’ll help as much as I can, that will definitely require some assistance from Daddy!

Understanding Boy Toys :: My engineer-brained husband can build the best train track; he knows all the characters in Star Wars {I always forget the Brown Bear’s name}; he can identify the different types of dinosaurs; and he can conquer any challenge a box of Legos throws his way. However, I am not as well-versed in these toys, but I’m finding my way through the minefield of Hot Wheels one day at a time.

Car Seat Installation :: Single moms, I have a question: how do you install a carseat on your own? Major props to you because are you kidding me with the LATCH system and the seatbelt jungle? Yes, I can do it. But, heck yes, my husband does it way better – and way safer – than me!

I am so thankful for my husband for all of these reasons and more.  He is an incredible Daddy to our boys, and I know that I couldn’t be the mom that I am without him! What are the things that your husband is a rockstar at? Be sure to tell us in the comments below!

Originally from Louisiana, Brittney has called Houston home for nearly all her life. Brittney graduated from Houston Baptist University where she was a member of Phi Mu and a four-year cheerleader. It didn’t take long after graduation for her to meet her husband Jeremy on the sand volleyball courts at Memorial Park. She jokes that when marrying Jeremy, she also married LSU because she tied the knot with the most passionate Tiger football fan. Many weekends in the fall, they can be found in the shadows of Tiger Stadium at their big family tailgating party. Brittney has a Master's Degree from LSU and works in secondary education as an administrator and a cheerleading coach. Brittney and Jeremy have three boys, Connor {Nov 2012}, Parker {Nov 2014}, and Ryan {May 2018}. Brittney is a big baby-making, food allergy fighting, NICU surviving mom. Though she grew up surrounded by hairbows, pom poms, and lots of pink, Brittney now embraces being a boy mom. She loves raising her three boys and learning all about superheroes, baseball, and the pain of stepping on a lego when barefoot. In her kid-free time she enjoys working on craft projects, getting lost in a good book, and watching Grey's Anatomy.

  1. Definitely feel you on the biggest smiles for daddy !!!! All he has to do is look at her and she squeals (literally her best Wilber from charlottes web impression) in excitement!!! I can dance, sing, rattle every toy in the house (which by the way is beginning to resemble a babies r us showroom) and am met with a smug “so are you gonna feed me or what?” expression.

My husband also wins the category for getting her easily down for naps! Apparently I’m only more interesting when trying to get her to sleep… Bc she literally doesn’t take those lazed beam eyes off of me the second I put her down. ??

  2. Yes, my husband is a champ at getting the boys settled for naps, too! Good point!! Thanks for reading, sweet friend!
