10 Must Have Items to Survive a Whole30

Clearer skin, better sleep, bloating gone… yep, these are just some of the great things I have experienced while doing a Whole30. In case you haven’t heard, the Whole30 is a program where you cut out certain food groups {like sugar, grains, dairy and legumes} for 30 days. Sound impossible? It’s not! I’ve done several rounds of the Whole30 over the years and I’ve found a few “must have” items to stock up on.

Doing a Whole30 is like “pushing the reset button on your health,” they say. Part of what makes this program great is it helps you find out what foods may be causing a negative impact on your health without you even realizing it. For example, my husband discovered dairy triggers his migraines – not allergies like he has always thought. While on the Whole30, you have to read all of the labels. You can’t have added sugar in any meals and soon realize a TON of the food you are eating has added sugar. It always seems that when people ask me about my experience, I tell them to write down a few staples to grab to make it a bit easier. So, here they are!

You can download the Whole30 program rules – oh, I’ll add one more piece of advice. When I did my first Whole30 a few years ago, I planned day 30 for the day before a vacation. That was a huge mistake! Probably the most important part of the plan is the “reintroduction phase” where you start bringing foods back into your diet. This is where all of your hard work pays off and you can see what foods may trigger certain things. So, make sure to give yourself time for this at the end.

*I swear the Whole30 will change the way you eat. It takes away cravings, it will restore unhealthy habits you may have, it will give you a new appreciation for food. Give it a go!
