5 Reasons To Staycation in Houston

Y’all, it’s July already. Doesn’t that make summer almost half way over? Don’t fret, though, if you haven’t planned a vacation {aka “trip” if you’re planning to travel with kids} just yet. Houston has plenty to offer, and a staycation here in town might be just what the doctor ordered for you and your family. Here’s why we think staycationing is a perfect option…

5 Reasons To Staycation in Houston | Houston Moms Blog

1} It Feels Like Travel

In a city of this size, and especially if you’re traveling from one side of Beltway 8 to the other {and especially if you factor in traffic}, you can feel like you actually did travel out of town. Especially those kiddos. I mean, would they really know the difference? Probably not.

2} It’s Budget-Friendly

With the unfortunate number of job compromises and lay-offs this year in Houston, a staycation for a night or two in the city might fit better in the budget for many families.  No airfare, no stops to fill up gas again and again, and no need to take the days off work!

3} It’s a Chance to Check Out Houston’s Best

When you live and work in Houston, it’s easy to get in a routine and not venture far outside of your day-to-day box.  However, a staycation is such a fun way to play tourist for a day {or two, or three!} and check out some of Houston’s best restaurants, events, and attractions.

4} It’s a Great Way to Beat the Heat

June’s heat was a humdinger, so we all know what’s in store for July and August. It’s only going to get worse, and there’s no better way {or any way at all, really} to beat the heat in Houston than being poolside. Knowing that, our friends and sponsors over at Omni at Westside have a special staycation package for families throughout the duration of the summer. It’s their Fun and Sun Package, and it includes ::

  • A weekend staycation
  • A poolside “Dive-In” family movie on Saturday, complete with popcorn
  • Music provided by DJ Surf that carries you all the way to the start of the movie
  • 20% off voucher for food and beverages at their new Outdoor Pool Grill
  • Omni Art of Breakfast buffet for each guest
  • An Omni pool bag
  • Omni kids’ backpacks for each child
  • Omni kids’ Milk and Cookies turndown service

We had the pleasure of staycationing at the Omni during their sold-out Fourth of July weekend, and I can tell you my kids will be asking to go back.  {Good thing their Fun and Sun Package runs through September 4th!}  The best part of this staycation was that we did get to spend more time in the sun and pool and less time in our car traveling to and from.  We arrived early on Saturday with swimsuits already on, well before check-in, and headed straight for the pool.  Instead of checking out the next day and losing a day of fun to travel, we took our bags to the front desk to hold for us until we left, and we hit the pool again before heading home that afternoon. A staycation equals more time having fun and less time in the car.  Winning!

5} It’s Perfect for Fur Mamas Too!

Arranging care for your furry family members while traveling is often a major stressor. The great thing about booking a staycation instead is that 1} you can either find a dog-friendly hotel or resort here in Houston, like the Omni at Westside or 2} run home and tend to your pet if need be. We saw many guests with dogs on our staycation, but since we were so close by, we arranged for a neighbor to help us out one day, and then ran home the second day to let our dogs in an out. Definitely a perk of staying in town!

I am so thankful to the Omni for opening their doors to us and for helping us see all the perks that come with staying local. And whether you’re vacationing or staycationing this summer, we do wish you and your family a safe and happy summer!
