While we are all missing real in-person events, we can take comfort in knowing that creators across the world are hosting virtual events. Here in Houston those events are up and running, stronger than ever.
In the month of May, you can find some really fun events from virtual Moms Nights Out, educational videos and classes for the kids, work out classes, and more! Some of them are on-going, with daily and weekly hang outs, and some have specific dates.

Each Weekday | 11am :: Houston Zoo’s Facebook Live
Each weekday, the zoo is hosting an 11:00 a.m. CST Facebook Live to bring the Zoo to YOU! They will be sharing daily updates of what our furred, flippered, and feathered friends are up to and how our zookeepers are caring for them while we are closed. Follow along and check out the fun at-home-learning activities below!

Each weekday, the Children’s Museum of Houston is hosting fun events and learning opportunities on Facebook Live and their Youtube page! They have tons of At Home learning opportunities on their website with bilingual story times and virtual workshops.
Monday Mornings | 10:00am :: Read Along with PBS Kids:: Michelle Obama Reads Kids Books
To encourage family engagement and a love of reading at home, PBS Kids offers families a place to come together and read along with fan-favorites on YouTube. PBS Kids Read-Alongs have included story-times with Brad Meltzer, Marc Brown, Victoria Kann, Angela Santomero, and more. Along with story-time of a beloved book, each PBS KIDS Read-Along is designed to encourage engagement among families who tune in, with activity ideas and questions that spark conversation.

Does your child ask where rainbows come from? What clouds are made of? Why thunder always follows lightning? To help entertain and educate kids while at home, tune into “Weather Wednesday, Powered by Reliant” each Wednesday at 2 p.m. on Facebook Live. The team discusses recent and upcoming weather and answers your questions—about forecasts, weather 101, or anything you and your child are curious about! Join us for a conversation on the science behind what many may be experiencing, and some suggestions for coping. This program is online-only on March of Dimes Facebook Page.
Every Friday Morning | 10:30am :: Online Superhero Story Time at Discovery Green
Hang out with kid celebs like Spider Man and Cinderella with Discovery Green for very special online story times and dance-offs. Get ready to shake your sillies out and watch a childhood hero tell a story. There’s also a letter of the day and a coloring sheet that goes with it on their Facebook page.
May 2nd | 7pm :: Party on the Plaza: Virtual Benefit Concert
Party on the Plaza is back, but online! Get ready for epic performances and local celebrity sightings. The concert will benefit Houston Food Bank.
May 2nd | 5:00pm – 6:00pm :: ROCOreveal: Principal Flutist Brook Ellen Ferguson
Join us on Facebook Live Saturday, May 2nd as we explore the beautiful colors of the flute! Tune in at 5:00 pm Central for a home concert and chat featuring principal flutist Brook Ellen Ferguson live from her home in Colorado, performing three of her favorite works.
May 4th – May 10th :: Virtual Screening of Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety
In response to escalating anxiety and uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the award-winning Okay to Say mental health public awareness campaign and The Hackett Center for Mental Health are teaming up to host a free, online screening of the documentary Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety. The film will be available for a free one-time viewing during National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, Monday, May 4 through Sunday, May 10, 2020 for the first 1,000 families or individuals in the Greater Houston area who reserve a screening.
May 9th | 5:00pm – 7:00pm :: Rock and Roll Sushi Saturday- a Virtual Cooking Class
With our step-by-step guidance, they will teach you the following skills:: Sushi Rice; proper techniques for making sushi rice correctly; Dynamite Sauce, spicy mayo, Nigiri Sushi, ebi (cooked shrimp), sake (salmon), maguro (ahi tuna) Common Sushi Rolls, California Roll, crab salad & avocado roll, Tekkamaki (spicy tuna roll) and Kappamaki (cucumber roll).

Join us online for this backyard adaption of our Prelude Concert Series, sponsored by the Primrose School at Greenway Plaza and the Primrose School of Upper Kirby. This 30-minute musical experience is geared towards babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them and will be available for viewing for 48 hours.
