Carolina Creek Camp {Sponsored Post & Giveaway}

Confession :: The notion of sending my kids off for a week to live and sleep with strangers seems counter-intuitive to me. It just doesn’t seem natural. We are not even big on sleepovers. Except at my house. *grinning*  Sleepovers are for another post, but suffice it so say that the “overnight” gets my spidey senses to tingling!

Then.

Carolina Creek Christian Camp happened in to my life. My girls were really wanting to go to a summer camp this year. Through this fantastic community of Houston Moms Blog, I was introduced to Carolina Creek. After perusing the website for just a few minutes, I was comfortable. But after driving to Huntsville for a visit with the camp directors and some of the staff, I was in. And most importantly, MY GIRLS were in.

So now not only are my children going to attend their first summer camp at CCCC, but I want to go too – and not in the momma sense, but as a camper!

So, here’s what I learned about Carolina Creek Christian Camp that made this rookie camp mom register the kids let my eleven year-old register the Sisters for camp with very little apprehension ::

The staff is incredible.

The day of our visit, Keith and Carrie {the executive directors} and Abby {a full-time staff member and former counselor} gave us a first rate tour of all three campuses – Lakeview, Creekside, and The Wild. Let me tell you something, they had me at “Heyyyyy!!!” So gracious and attentive, and I knew right away we were like-minded. Plus, they are unapologetically Christian.  This is a big deal to this momma.

The camper to counselor ratios are stellar.

5:1 for The Wild {K-5} and 7:1 for Creekside {6-12}. The counselors are with their campers 24/7. Bless ’em. Which reminds me – I should send some bottles of 5-Hour Energy and candy to our counselors.  Maybe even some ibuprofen for good measure.

The camp is separated accordingly.

You know.  Boys with boys.  Girls with girls.  Younger kiddos in one camp.  Older campers in the other.  Everyone is separated and supervised.  Momma of girls here!

The facilities are top notch.

No joke. The activities offered at Creekside are over the top.  You can scroll through dozens of pictures here.  But I’ll fill you in on the highlights…

As a mom to two girls {ages 11 and 13}, I’ll have one in each camp this year.  Meghan will be at Creekside with duplex style cabins that have 20 beds on each side.  Her days will be spent on ropes courses, playing sports, swimming in an olympic size pool, and of course – on the waterfront.

Maddy, on the other hand, will be over at The Wild which has 12 animal themed cabins, but who cares about all that cause they each have a fireman’s pole and a slide out the back from the second floor! Whaaa?!  They also have a train, farm, jungle, ocean, and THE WORLD!  You just have to see it to believe it.

CCCamp Wild Cabins{Seriously. I can’t look at this with out singing some Katy Perry.
“Cause you’re gonna hear me roar…”}

The dining hall is legit.

Thanks to Chef Lawrence Portie, who served me turkey, rice, green beans, and salad for our visit.  So no need to worry about what your camper will eat all week.  Because they will probably be eating better than you.

Y’all. This place looks pretty grand to me. So, check this out…

May 24th is Camp Day

You can go visit the camp and see for yourself!

Melissa is a native Floridian currently making Houston home. She has a background in English education, but ended up teaching sex ed to middle and high school students. This passion for teaching healthy relationship education transformed into a ministry of teaching parents to speak early and often to their kids about healthy sexuality. {Which she says was way more fun than teaching poetry.} But that’s all “Doppleganger Melissa” now. These days, she is a full-time homeschooling mama to two future world-changers, Meghan and Maddy. She is an unapologetic sanguine who loves having people around her table eating off of paper plates and drinking sweet tea. When “Mel’s Diner” {the kitchen} isn’t open, she may be working off calories at the gym, driving her girls around town, or trying to round up some twenty-somethings to feed and mother. Melissa believes in a few things pretty strongly :: Jesus, her spouse, the power of Diet Coke, and that traveling should be a sport. You can find her over at Spouseisms, or on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or Facebook {@Spouseisms}.
