Use It or Lose It! {Your Dental Benefits, That Is!}

If you’re anything like me, then going over insurance information or dental benefits can feel like you are trying to read a research paper…on the history of physics…in another language.  My head literally starts to spin when I see the acronyms EOB {explanation of benefits?}, PPO {??}, WTH {what the heck???  no, seriously – I have no clue what they are talking about}.  But thankfully, our sponsors at BLVD Dentistry know their way in and out of benefits like it’s their job.  Because, I guess…well, it kind of is!

So first things first – you don’t need to know everything about your benefits.  Can I say that again?  You don’t NEED to know everything about your benefits!!  If you call your dentist’s office, they can research and counsel you on your specific situation {insurance, dental health, etc.} to come up with the best plan of action.  With just this one simple step, you can maximize your insurance benefits and reduce the amount you will have to pay out of pocket each year.  Which means more money for going out to eat or shopping.  And that makes everyone happy.

One thing you should know is that now is the time to act on those benefits!  You have been paying into your dental insurance all year long, and if you don’t use up your allotment by the end of 2014 – you’ll lose it.  Yup, precious dollars just being flushed down that little spit sink.  Of course, you’ve probably used up some of those benefits on routine exams or maybe a filling or even {gulp!} a root canal.  But chances are – you probably have some money left in there.  So why not use it up now before it’s gone?  You might even be able to do part of your treatment plan here at the end of the year to use the last of 2014’s benefits and another portion of treatment at the beginning of 2015 when those new benefits kick in.  Once again, it just takes one little phone call to come up with a plan.

Bottom line is – whether you are an insurance aficionado or just someone who cuts that check every month because you know you should – take advantage of those benefits!  You pay into it, so be sure to get your money’s worth out of it too.  Want to know more or find a dentist who can truly help?  Contact our friends at BLVD Dentistry.  They make the process so incredibly easy and really are there to help make the experience {from paperwork to the dental chair} as painless as possible!

Kelly is the founder of Houston Moms Blog and has lived in this beautiful city nearly all of her life. She has a degree in education from Texas State University and was honored to teach special education for eight years to some of the cutest little kiddos you could ever meet. While teaching, Kelly met Cody – a tall drink of water and country boy to the core – and together, they fell in love, got married, and decided to start a family. In March 2011, they welcomed Hayes into the world, a silly but smart little boy with a story you have to read to believe. And in April 2013, their family was complete with the addition of Hadley, a super gregarious and oh-so-cute baby girl. Now, Kelly devotes her days to caring for her own little ones…and would not trade this new job of hers for the world! In her not-so-spare time, Kelly loves meeting up with her girlfriends for margaritas, failing miserably at Pinterest projects, and exploring this big old city with her two favorite little side-kicks in tow.
