Easy Halloween Lunch Ideas

I absolutely LOVE making fun lunches for my kids, especially around the various holidays.  But let’s get real…I barely have time to make them semi-healthy and round lunches most days – let alone remember to grab specialty items from the grocery store or order special plastic toothpicks / fancy cookie cutters / silicon baking cups months in advance.  So as with most things in this motherhood gig of mine, I have mastered the art of faking it ’til I make it.  And this Halloween that means grabbing things I already have on hand and putting them together for some EASY Halloween lunch ideas that totally and completely rocked my little ones’ costumed socks off.

Halloween Lunch Ideas^^Pssst…don’t forget to pin the above pic for next year too!^^

So without further adieu, here are a few of the super cute and ridiculously easy Halloween-themed foods I whipped up this week.  I literally had every one of these items on hand in my fridge or in my pantry, and I’ve given you a few substitution ideas in case your fridge and pantry look a little different than mine.  Thankfully, I’ve found that it doesn’t take much to get the little ones excited, and as an added bonus – I’ve also found that they eat MUCH better when the food not only tastes good but looks fun as well.  Boo appetit!  {Sorry, I couldn’t help it.}

Halloween Lunch - Spider Sandwich

>> Spider Sandwich <<

Anyone else’s kids request a peanut butter sandwich every.loving.day. for lunch?  Good, glad mine aren’t the only ones.  I try to mix it up as much as I can, and this spider sandwich did not disappoint.  I just made the pb sammy as usual, and then cut it into a circle using my handy-dandy circle pocket maker.  {These things are life changing and one of the only “tools” I keep on hand for cutesy lunch making.}  The kiddos helped me stick 4 pretzel sticks into each side and add on the raisin eyes, and voila…a spider sandwich. Possible Substitutions :: sub bread with english muffin, biscuit, rice cake // sub peanut butter with any other nut butter, cream cheese, jelly // sub raisins with chocolate chips

Halloween Lunch - Pumpkin Orange

I’m almost embarrassed to write out how easy this one was.  Peel mandarin orange, cut celery, and put the two together.  But oh my word, this pumpkin orange turns out cute.  Possible Substitutions :: sub mandarin orange with regular orange // sub celery with bell pepper, mint, parsley, really any green herb or veggie…

Halloween Lunch - Cheese Ghost

Before you open the cheese stick, just grab a black permanent marker and draw on a spooky face. Ya’ll…it doesn’t get easier than this, and these are a fantastic way to make school lunches fun!

Halloween Lunch - Monster Dog

>> Mummy Dogs <<

Although not the healthiest option, this was a crowd favorite in my house!  To create this mummy dog, I grabbed a pack of all-natural, organic hot dogs {yes, there is such a thing!}, a can of crescent rolls, and some mustard.  I started by rolling out the crescent roll dough into big rectangles with the seams squished together.  Then, I used my pizza cutter to cut the dough into thin strips.  I took those strips and wrapped them around and around the hot dog, leaving a small space on one end for “the face.” Then, I baked the mummy dogs on 375 for about 12 – 15 minutes, just until golden brown. Two quirts of mustard for the eyes finished them off, and they were gobbled up just as soon as they cooled.  Possible Substitutions :: sub hot dogs with sausage or tofu dogs {?!?} — or add cheese to make them even more delicious // sub crescent roll dough with a can of biscuits or puff pastry sheets // sub mustard with ketchup or any other condiment of your choosing

Halloween Lunch - Monster Mouth

My son got an absolute kick out of these!  I just took a green apple and cut it into thick slices as I usually do, but this time I smeared some peanut butter on one side…carefully placed some yogurt covered raisins on the peanut butter…then sealed it up with another slice of apple that I smeared with peanut butter.  Usually, I use marshmallows for the teeth – but I had yogurt raisins lying around and gave those a try…and I think it gives the teeth an added level of creepiness with the bits of black raisin poking through!  Possible Substitutions :: sub green apple with red apple or pear // sub peanut butter with any other nut butter or Nutella // sub yogurt covered raisins with marshmallows

arrHalloween Lunch - Banana Ghost

>> Banana Ghost <<

Seriously so, so easy.  Peel the banana and stick on some raisins to make a ghost face.  Boom.  Possible Substitutions :: sub raisins with chocolate chips or anything else you can find laying in your pantry that might work!

See?  Promised you these lunches were easy!  So dig through your fridge and pantry, whip up a few of these throughout the course of the week, and then sit back and wait for your Mother of the Year award to arrive.  Oh, and if you have any other ideas for easy Halloween lunches…I’d love for you to leave them in the comments so we can keep the list going too!!
