Father’s Day Gift Ideas {…that don’t involve neckties or golf balls!}

Finding the right words for the fathers in our lives is tough, so I went to a certain four-year-old for inspiration…

Momma :: Wyatt, if you could tell someone about your dad, what would you say?

Wyatt :: That he’s awesome.

And there you have it. I wish I had recorded and could share the admiration in his little voice. As tough {or sometimes as seemingly simple} as words can be, finding the right gift for Father’s Day can be harder.  While I’m certain that four-year-old thinks Daddy needs a new Lego set or Darth Vadar figurine to help him play “bad guy,” I have a few other Father’s Day gift suggestions to offer today that will fit any budget, whether you are buying or making something for the best dads we know!

Gifts to Buy

If your guy loves to get adventurous, play on his interests – but with a little something he might not expect.

  • Dads don’t have to be seasoned golfers to enjoy a gift card from Topgolf Houston. Send him off to meet his buddies for some grub and golf swings.
  • Or seek a greater adventure and set Dad up with a gift card from iFly. You could even make it a date night and join him for some indoor sky diving fun!

For the dapper dad…

Does your man rather fashionable?  Here’s a few ideas that he just might love.

  • Shower him with some city love with a shirt from Houstorian. I’m partial to this hot sauce tee for my foodie husband.
  • If you’ve got a slightly larger budget, spoil him with an amazing weekend bag from Killspencer.
  • Or for maybe a slightly smaller budget {raises hand!}, grab a couple of these super soft cotton tees from Uniqlo.
  • Consider a subscription to Dollar Shave Club and keep his razors sharp the easy way.

Father's Day Gift Bar ToolsFor the weekend bartender…

It might be ideal to be on a {very shaded} patio on a lazy Saturday afternoon, but dads are much more likely to be hanging in the backyard watching the kids splash around in a blow-pool while manning the grill. Instead of bringing him a cold beer, give him the tools to create some fun weekend drinks for the two of you.

For the family chef / grill master…

And speaking of the grill, Dad can always use some new tools, right?

  • We learned the hard way that kitchen plates don’t make the best carrying devices {spoiler alert, Honey}, so these grilling pans might just find their way into the Father’s Day gift box.
  • This Thermapen thermometer is fantastic for quick temperature readings for perfect grilling.
  • Expand Dad’s outside cooking repertoire with a pizza stone made for the grill. We know a Houston Dad or two that definitely rocks pizza night!

For the kid at heart…

Dads care for our families, and sometimes, they are just big kids themselves! Give the gift of making memories together.

  • Grab some water guns for fun family afternoons this summer.
  • Visit Target to grab some Super Hero tees.
  • Give a Lego store gift card for a family trip to purchase Legos that dad and the kiddos can build together.

Gifts to Make

The Sentimental Sort…

There are so many DIY Father’s Day projects out there, so grab some supplies and hop on over to Pinterest and get to crafting. Here are a few round-up ideas to get you started!

  • Love taking pictures? Set Dad up with some new office artwork. Make an afternoon of it playing dress up in Dad’s shoes and framing the pics. Or take a page from our contributor Jessica’s book and have the kids dress in Dad’s clothes, pose outside, and have a canvas made.
  • Book a Before 8 am photography session with Karen Jacot {I promise you will LOVE it!} and have an artist render new, priceless art for your home.
  • Here’s another framer idea that tells Dad why we really love him!
  • Make your own board book with a favorite prayer or poem and pictures of your littles ones hanging with Dad.
  • For the handprint fans, show Dad what a super hero he is with this easy painting project.
  • Sharpie a mug for Dad’s morning coffee.

For A Good Laugh…

  • This gift could not be easier. Make it last minute while Dad sleeps in! Print off a questionnaire {or find a similar one on Pinterest} and giggle over the hilariously innocent responses from your kids.
  • Or get a little more involved {and start earlier} and make a book. And bonus — this one has downloads for Grandpa.

Pure Marriage Material…

  1. These are great suggestions, Jenn! I am going to track down that pizza stone and order the bar glasses. This is the best list I’ve seen put together. Please be my personal shopper, or at the very least, do another list for the dads for Christmas!
