Houston Moms "Friday Favorites:: A Weekly Glance at Our Favorite Things" #houstonmoms #houstonmomsblog #momsaroundhouston

Our days at home started to blur together during the long Spring Break that turned into an even longer Summer. Pandemic anxiety aside, I haven’t particularly minded the slower pace of life. It has afforded me time to do other things. Here are 5 of my favorite new discoveries or old vices that I will always equate with this season.

Learning

sheet music directI discovered Sheet Music Direct which carries a huge selection and the latest and greatest releases {Hamilton!} of sheet music for piano, vocal, guitar, and more. Customers can purchase and download sheet music starting for around $4 each, or gain unlimited access with a subscription. I especially appreciate all the “Easy Piano” versions of songs available. Another great thing is that once purchased, the sheet music is always accessible on your account where you can click “Play” to hear and follow along with the demo.

Watching

Kim's Convenience on NetflixAlmost every night I watch Kim’s Convenience on Netflix. It’s a comedy about a Korean-Canadian family who own a convenience store in Toronto. Not only do I love the Asian representation, but that show is hilarious in an innocent, throwback way. The son in the family is played by Simu Liu who will star in the Marvel Studios film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. His character in Kim’s Convenience is portrayed as a handsome high school drop-out, which I think is awesome because it goes against the TV stereotype of Asian males. When the world is too heavy, I can count on Kim’s Convenience to be a fun, light-hearted escape.

Drinking

English Tea Shop teas

Every evening after the kids go to bed, the first thing I do is make a big mug of herbal, non-caffeinated tea. My friend gifted me two boxes of English Teashop Organic Tea recently and I have been enjoying these with some honey every night for the last few weeks. The tea is delicious and it is made by a company who values small farming, organic products, sustainable methods, and Fairtrade. All the better.

Snacking

Kirkland chocolate covered almonds

These huge Kirkland brand jars of chocolate covered almonds are my go-to snack when I stay up way too late at night watching TV. They are economical because you buy them at Costco. They are delicious because Costco does their homework. And they are healthy for you because they are made of protein {almonds} and vegetables {cacao bean}. That’s what my kids say anyway, and you know what? We should listen to the children. A wee handful will hit the spot every time.

Shopping

patio furniture with outdoor rug

I created a comfy spot out by the pool this past Spring with our existing patio furniture and a new outdoor rug, all placed under our fabulously large umbrella. Sometimes I even do my work out in that spot, in my swimsuit with my laptop, cold drinks at the ready. That outdoor rug from Boutiquerugs.com is what makes the space so inviting. I love it. It’s attractive, waterproof, and it was really affordable. The online-only retailer carries so many options too, and their merchandise is so artistically styled–especially for a rug store. Even their Instagram is impressive.
