Fun, Sun, and Adventure with Camp Olympia!

After a dreary and dismal late winter season, we at Houston Moms Blog are daydreaming of all things summer :: sleeping in, playing in the sprinklers, long days at the pool, sno-cones, and of course, the ultimate for kids and parents alike – summer camp! We are thrilled to once again partner with our sponsors Camp Olympia this year, showcasing one of the top camps in the United States AND a camp that was recently voted number one in all of Texas. {See what we had to say last year here.}

We could probably write a novel about everything we absolutely adore about Camp Olympia. Seriously, we love it that much and just know that your family will too! I am absolutely counting down the days until my little ones can embrace the camp experience, and trust that Camp Olympia will be at the very top of my list. So why do we love this experience so much? Here are just a few reasons why ::

1. Steeped in History

Camp Olympia has been around since 1968 and is now working on the 3rd generation of campers. Yes, that’s right – 45+ years of building one of the best camps {and campers} in Texas. Kids come from around the globe to join our Texans for an unforgettable week, allowing for amazing exposure to diversity and excellence. And let’s not forget the staff either. Tommy and Kathy Ferguson have headed up Camp Olympia for over 40 years and many of the other year-round staff members that pour their hearts and souls into your child’s experience have been around for over 15 years. A truly top-notch staff whose only goal is to make a postive and lasting impression on others while whole-heartedly embracing their mission…

2. Always Evolving

Of course, it’s amazing that Camp Olympia has been around for so long, but never fear – they are definitely not stuck in the 70’s when it comes to new adventures for your kiddos. They listen to what campers and parents alike want to see, and this year, they have TONS of new activities and opportunities. Just a few highlights of what’s to come…

  • SPARK Week :: Ready for your 6-9 year old to experience camp, but not sure they are ready for the longer term sessions? Then SPARK Week is just for you! This one week session {July 26th – August 1st} will allow them get to know what Camp Olympia is about, plus you get to choose from 15 different activities that are age appropriate and designed just for them. This week will fill up FAST, so definitely find out more here and register now!

  • Puppies in Training :: Part of camping is learning independence and fostering growth. What better way to do that than through raising a puppy this summer? Campers up to age 12 will nurture, love, and give lots of attention to THREE precious puppies. I mean, is there anything cuter {and more valuable} than that? camp olympia puppies in training
  • Expanding Activities :: Campers already have 40+ activities to choose from during their terms, but Camp Olympia isn’t stopping there! Not only will they be expanding their archery and riflery classes, but they continue to grow their space. Case in point, coming this summer is OOKIT, where they will have a brand-new park by the golf course boasting all sorts of fun things like horseshoes {zingers anyone?}, ping-pong, and much more. Nothing like a little healthy competition after a fun day of activities. camp olympia archery

3. Non-Stop Fun

From the moment they wake up to the second their head hits the pillow at night, your child will be thoroughly engaged and entertained – which is what camp is all about, right? With the 40 activities that you get to CHOOSE, a camper will have 10, 40 minute sessions on their camp activity schedule, taught by counselors with those specific skills. Just a few highlights :: golf, horseback riding, wakeboarding, arts & crafts, drama, dancing, and almost every sport imaginable. There is definitely something for everyone! And of course, safety is paramount at Camp Olympia. Child to counselor ratio is just 4:1 in each cabin, counselors are thoroughly vetted through an intensive hiring and training process, and they are accredited by the American Camping Association. Kid AND Parent Approved? We’re in!

“Thank you so much for all your hard work in making his camp experience so wonderful. I must add that my simple words of thank you certainly do not adequately express my deep appreciation and gratitude to y’all and all that you do. It’s such a comfort as a parent to continuously send my kids to Camp O each year and know that they will be safe and have a rewarding and memorable time. Thank you for being Camp O’s directors and all that y’all do! We look forward to seeing y’all again next year!” – Causey; Houston, Texas

4. Location, Location, Location

How lucky are we to have such an fantastic camp literally less than a couple of hours outside of Houston? In a hop, skip, and a jump you can be on beautiful Lake Livingston in 100 miles reveling in all of the beautiful scenery and everything that the beautiful Piney Woods has to offer. Far enough away for your child to cultivate independence, close enough for your peace of mind.

5. Unmatched Dedication

Camp Olympia is dedicated to having fun together, helping people grow in body, mind, and spirit. They are committed to the preservations of camping, and long to see the tradition and value of camping extend to future generations. With that commitment in mind, it’s constant motivation for Camp Olympia to make camp fun, safe, adventurous, challenging, intriguing, and to, most of all, provide growth for its campers. There is nothing of greater value than human life, and they know this is at Camp Olympia which is why they provide safe programs and activities, encourage physical activity while allowing time to rest and reflect for the campers, and maintain a safe haven while teaching kids and campers how to resolve conflict and work through real life situations in a wholesome Christian, non-denominational atmosphere.
