Kale Yeah! Why You Should Love Smoothies

It’s the new year, and almost everyone you know is probably eating better, working out more, or just trying to be healthier.  If you’ve logged on to social media, it seems like half of what you see is someone trying to sell you on the latest fad diet, shake, or wrap. But it doesn’t have to be that complicated or expensive. Green smoothies have changed my life, and it might work for you too!

I’m only speaking from my experience – but drinking one smoothie a day has really made me feel great.  I started this about three years ago. If I don’t have a smoothie each day, I just feel off. It’s really a must-have for me! I swear by them, and I hope that you will too.

Green Smoothie Recipes

What is a green smoothie? Simple. It’s some sort of greens mixed up with veggies, fruit, and a liquid base. You can add in other fun stuff like flaxseed or chia seeds.  Research shows that smoothies are a great way to stay healthy as a diet rich in fruits and vegetables give you immune-boosting antioxidants. It’s also a great meal on the go and an easy way to make sure your kids get the fruits and veggies they need.

OK, let’s get started. But first, here are a few tips I have learned along the way ::

  1. Don’t use ice. Freeze some fruit, and use that instead.
  2. Put the greens into the blender first thing.
  3. Blend the greens and liquid base first, then add the fruit.
  4. Switch it up. When you find a combo you love, don’t get stuck on making it over and over again.
  5. You can make your smoothies ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  6. Save glass containers with lids from pasta sauce or other kitchen items. It’s great for smoothies on the go! {There are some brands that use actual mason jars with screw top lids.}

If you are wondering about blenders, I should mention that I do have a Vitamix. It was worth the price tag for me to buy it, but you don’t have to use it to get a great smoothie. Houston based Rawfully Organic offers refurbished Vitamix blenders that still come with a warranty.
