How I Got Rid of My Peach Fuzz

Back up a few months to January, I was with my two siblings visiting a family member in the hospital when somewhere in mid-conversation {I can’t even remember what led up to it}, my siblings say to me, “You’ve got little white hairs all over your face.”  One thing’s for certain, I can also count on my siblings to be the one to tell me “my butt looks fat in those jeans.”

I wasn’t completely shocked though. I could see it. I knew it was there. It was an insecurity of mine. I just didn’t know what to do about it. I actually have a a medical condition, polycystic ovarian syndrome, that results in this extra hair growth on my face. I cringed at the thought of waxing or threading my whole face, and laser hair removal takes a while and can be, well, hard on the pocket books. I’ve often asked my husband about it, and of course, like most husbands in an attempt to offer reassurance, he would offer that dreaded four letter F-word — “No, honey, it’s fine.”

Dermaplaning

As luck would have it though, that’s about the time that I met with our sponsor Dr. Camille Cash and her medical aesthetician, Kristin, for the first time. {Remember, to help me get more youthful skin?} She asked about my skin concerns at our first meeting, and of course, I re-hashed the entire story again for her. She immediately suggested dermaplaning for me.

Dermaplaning is a procedure performed only by licensed professionals where the most outer layer of skin {the epidermis} is gently removed. It provides for a very deep exfoliation which helps in the anti-aging process because it allows for the deeper and healthier skin to now be on the surface. It also removes excess vellus hair — also known as the dreaded peach fuzz. Perfect!

I showed up one Friday for my appointment, and just like my initial consult, they made me feel right at home. Have I mentioned just how gorgeous and peaceful the office is yet? It is — very much so. Kristin called me right on time, and we got started. The procedure lasted maybe 25 minutes top. It was painless — I actually found myself getting into “the zone.” You know, that zone where you’re so relaxed that you’re a little embarrassed you might drift off to sleep and drool a little. Seriously, that painless. She went around my face, avoiding my eyes, and removed that outer layer and all that peach fuzz. She showed me what she removed before she tossed it. I am still amazed {and a little grossed out} at what was on my face.

Then she spoiled me with her most favorite peel. It’s called the green peel, and it is just a mega-combination of herbs that she scrubbed into my face for roughly three minutes. I could immediately feel it working as there was an immediate tingle when she put it on. It has rough texture to it, and there was a slight sting throughout, but honestly, it wasn’t terrible at all. I remember Kristin saying,

“You may hate me right now, but you’ll love me in the morning. Trust me.”

I will have to say that the pins and needles tingling continued throughout the rest of that day. Kristin warned me and prepared me about this well in advance. I didn’t mind at all, and that’s very likely a result of her candidness and honestly up front. No pain, no gain — right?!

She was right though – I did love her the next morning. In fact, I was in love with her by that afternoon after the redness on my face started to subside — I could already see the drastic difference. This might have been my first dermaplaning, but I can guarantee you that it won’t be my last, especially with their very reasonable pricing. And that green peel? Absolutely, totally, 100 percent, worth it.  I loved the way my make-up went on much smoother and more evenly afterwards — it could finally be absorbed into my skin well and not through my peach-fuzz facial hair.  Quite a few people asked if I had changed my make-up.  “No,” I just say, “I did dermaplaning!”

Interested in trying it out for yourself?  I can’t recommend it enough…
