We all need those projects that are fun for our kids, easy for us, that cost less than a dollar, require little supplies {i.e. mess}, and are even slightly educational. One of our favorite summer bucket list items was writing the President and the Disney Princesses. I’ve had lots of friends ask for details on how I did it, so I thought I’d share it with all you mamas too!
So gather your supplies together and get ready to have a blast with your kiddos!
How to Write the President
1. Have your child write the letter. If they are old enough, let this be an opportunity to learn formal letter writing skills. And if they are young, like my 3 year old, have them color a picture. I wrote on it, “Dear President Obama, Thank you for serving as our President. I love you, Karis.” And I told her what I wrote and why. While she was coloring, we talked about the President and what he did, and I showed her a picture of him as well. {All of this went over her head, but still it was laying a foundation!}
2. Include your return address in the letter – required if you want to get something back.
3. Address it to the following address ::
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
4. Have your child walk it to the mailbox and put the flag up…or even go into the Post Office!
Here’s the official White House link with all the details.
How to Write the Princesses {or any Disney Character!}
1. Have your child pick their favorite Disney princess or other character, and let them have fun with it! If they are older, work on those formal letter writing skills. If they are younger, write a few words for them and then just let them color a picture for whoever they chose.
2. Include your return address in the letter. {Required if you want to get something back from them too.}
3. Address it to one or both of the following addresses ::
Walt Disney World Communications
P.O. Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040
and
Walt Disney Company
Attn: Fan Mail Department
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521
4. Have your child walk it to the mailbox and put the flag up or even go into the Post Office!
Note :: I could not find an official link on any of the Disney websites. But I did find these addresses on many different websites on the internet. So we sent a letter to each address and ended up getting a postcard back from both!
Both places say it could take up to 6 weeks to get a response, but we got them both back within 2 weeks. Karis loved taking the letters to the mailbox and putting up the flag…then checking the mail every day to see if it’d come! The postman even hand delivered the letter back from the president! And even though she could’ve cared less about the letter back from President Obama, I know she will love having that keepsake one day. And the joy it brought her to get the letter back from the Princesses – well, she proclaimed it, “Best day ever!!!”
So grab a pen and paper, and start writing with your kiddos! Just be sure to take pics and tag @HoustonMomsBlog on Instagram so we can see the fun too. And feel free to pin this link for all your mama friends to have the instructions – it’s easy! You can just hover over the above picture and click on ‘Pin It’ or use the Shareaholic buttons that are located at the bottom of each and every post above my bio. We love connecting moms to fun, local information…and we appreciate it so much when you spread the word too!
This is too cool. Addy LOVES the princesses so we might have to get her to color some pictures and send them off for her birthday.
Bre, the Toddler Diva must do this!!! Can’t wait to see pics of it!
This is awesome Becky! I will have to remember this for when Jack gets older. Thanks for sharing.
Love it! And you can write any disney characters, not just princesses. 🙂
Becky I love this! We will definitely be writing Ariel and Cinderella this week!
Have so much fun!!!
Adding this to my to do list! Curious to see which Disney character Hayes will choose to write to…
