{How We Celebrate} Birthdays

In our family, November means one thing – BIRTHDAYS! Our boys are two years and one day apart, so we have a family tradition of November birthday parties. {I guess technically our family tradition is Valentine’s Day…but that’s a whole other blog post!}

So when I found out that our sponsor and sweet friend Michelle from This Moment Photography was working with some members of our contributor team over the next few months to capture how we celebrate — I knew that I wanted her to capture Parker turning one and Connor turning three as part of this very special month for us.

We held their joint birthday party at Wonderwild. Connor loves climbing up their tall playscape and playing on the jumping pillow, and Parker just wants to have plenty of space to crawl around and be busy. Wonderwild was a perfect match for their ages and stages this year!

Connor had such a blast at his party playing with his friends. It’s so much fun to watch him interact with the little friends he has made – he was loving every second of being the center of attention {and he didn’t seem to mind sharing the spotlight with his baby brother}.

When Parker is ready to be held, he just climbs up my legs and stands there waiting for me to pick him up. Which I do. Every. Single. Time. I just love this little guy. And I love that Michelle captured this sweet moment.

Who doesn’t love baby feet? The wrinkles! Can we just take a moment? Because I can’t even. I love this picture. Parker really doesn’t like shoes and prefers to be barefoot. I’m impressed Michelle was able to grab this picture since it seems like Parker never slows down when he’s crawling!

After playtime was over, it was time for cake! Even though it was a joint party, we did two separate cakes and our guests obliged in the singing of “Happy Birthday” two separate times. Connor is obsessed with firetrucks, so we did firetruck cupcakes for him. He loved it!

The best part of a one-year-old’s birthday party is the smash cake. And Parker did not disappoint with his. After a little coercing, he dug right in and made such a mess that his grandmothers had to take him to the bathroom afterward to clean him up! He had the high chair and the floor covered in cake – it was just the cutest! He had a ball!

After the birthday candles were blown out and most of his guests had gone home, my sweet three-year-old had one “big kiss” left for me. Connor has such a sweet heart. I absolutely adore this age {actually, I’ve adored every age so far…I am just smitten with this kid and his little brother}.

And, now to my favorite part of the post….this video. The first time I watched it, I ugly cried. A video of my boys’ birthday party is the greatest gift. We all have thousands of pictures of our kids, but few videos. I love that this video will remind me how Parker makes a fish face and blows kisses. And how Connor excitedly screams “Daddy!” when he wants to show off something he’s doing for his best bud. I love everything about this video. Thank you Michelle for documenting such a precious memory for my family!

Brittney F
Originally from Louisiana, Brittney has called Houston home for nearly all her life. Brittney graduated from Houston Baptist University where she was a member of Phi Mu and a four-year cheerleader. It didn’t take long after graduation for her to meet her husband Jeremy on the sand volleyball courts at Memorial Park. She jokes that when marrying Jeremy, she also married LSU because she tied the knot with the most passionate Tiger football fan. Many weekends in the fall, they can be found in the shadows of Tiger Stadium at their big family tailgating party. Brittney has a Master's Degree from LSU and works in secondary education as an administrator and a cheerleading coach. Brittney and Jeremy have three boys, Connor {Nov 2012}, Parker {Nov 2014}, and Ryan {May 2018}. Brittney is a big baby-making, food allergy fighting, NICU surviving mom. Though she grew up surrounded by hairbows, pom poms, and lots of pink, Brittney now embraces being a boy mom. She loves raising her three boys and learning all about superheroes, baseball, and the pain of stepping on a lego when barefoot. In her kid-free time she enjoys working on craft projects, getting lost in a good book, and watching Grey's Anatomy.
