I’m Judgy. You Probably Are Too.

I’m just going to come right out and say it.  I’m judgy.  You probably are too.

Mom Judgement - Featured

I like taking pictures.  A lot.  And I love social media.  A LOT.   And while I like to think I am in some plane of higher being where I present my life 100% as it is, to be honest, I don’t.  The angle is usually tilted so you don’t see the pile of laundry in the corner for the third or fifth day in a row.  Probably because I’ve noticed your dirty kitchen and junky car.  Because we put these things out there, and well…we judge.

Not the real chunks of life though.  If you’re a different religion or if we have opposite views on abortion, that’s fine by me.  I’m talking about the little things.  Wal-Mart vs. Target.  Texans vs. that other football team in Texas.  These are the things I scroll by during the day and just roll my eyes at each and everyone one of you.

Mostly because, well I’m a human being.  I question anything different from my way.  Why would anyone drive a mini van?  Small cars are the best.  Why would anyone live in the ‘burbs?  The city is amazing.  How can you even be bothered to cloth diaper?!? And it’s all these tiny things that make me ME that I accept to be self evident.  Odds are you feel the same way about yourself.

But here we are presenting our selective bits of life and acting like it’s completely natural to not raise an eyebrow about them.

I saw this wonderful quote floating around the Internet not too long ago:

…the first thought that goes through your mind is what you have been conditioned to think. What you think next defines who you are.

And that’s what we should be striving for.  Making that second thought better.  I’m striving for understanding.  Would I stop speaking to you in person because you wake up at some crazy hour to go running while I like to sleep in as long as possible?  Of course not.  Am I going to smile and lie about how I’ve always wanted to run a 5k and should probably do something about it? OF COURSE NOT.  How you choose to do you has little effect on how I choose to be me.  While I’m not saying we have to hold hands and sing “Kumbaya”, I might just have to live with knowing that I can learn something from continuing to friend/follow/tweet/like/have coffee with/read blogs of people that think differently than I do.

Unless you’re a Cowboys fan.

Breonna B
Breonna was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She is recently married to Tyrone, a graphic designer. They currently reside on the West Side of this great city. A big fan of movies, books, photography, and Starbucks, she currently finds herself knee-deep in the throes of being a mommy to Addy {Feb 2011}. Breonna spends the typical 9-5 doing yadda yadda yadda at her job {yes, it’s that nondescript and uninteresting}. She started blogging as a way to do movie reviews, but that gave way to pregnancy blogging. She eventually landed her own space of the internet on BreWrites as well as on Twitter and Instagram {@brewrites} where she talks about everything from the sassiness of her child, to the most recent concert tickets she got her hands on, to the occasional piece of short fiction.
