Mommy Makeover:: Helping Moms Regain Body Confidence

We are proud to partner with Memorial Plastic Surgery to share how a Mommy Makeover might be a great way for Houston moms to regain self confidence and feel great in their bodies again.

Mommy Makeover:: Helping Moms Regain Body ConfidencePregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are all amazing feats women accomplish with their bodies. To grow and birth an actual human and then provide that human with food that she makes herself are miracles that should be celebrated. And while these things are an incredible testimony to the power of the female body, not all women are happy with the aftermath of early motherhood on their abdomens, breasts, and skin. While exercise and a healthy diet can do a lot, there are some issues that can only be resolved surgically. Many women consider a Mommy Makeover to help restore their pre-pregnancy figures and self confidence.

Memorial Plastic Surgery  in Houston and Clear Lake consists of a team of dedicated board-certified plastic surgeons and experienced staff who are firmly committed to deliver world-class care and exceptional results. They recognize that no two moms’ bodies are the same, and they take an individualized approach to help patients achieve their goals.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover usually consists of abdominoplasty, breast enhancement, and liposuction, and targets three main areas of the body:: the abdomen, breasts, and skin.

Abdominoplasty {Tummy Tuck}

An abdominoplasty, or it’s better-known name, a tummy tuck, improves the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and if needed, corrects separated muscles and tightens the skin from the bottom of the breasts to the belly.

*Memorial Plastic Surgery does not recommend a C-Tuck, which is a Cesarean Section and tummy tuck in one surgery. This procedure results in less satisfying outcomes and a tougher recovery, especially right after childbirth.

Breast Enhancement

Not all women have the same issues with their breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some desire breast augmentation to enhance the size and shape of her breasts. Some are unhappy with sagging, and want their breasts lifted, but not necessarily enlarged. And still others can benefit from a breast reduction, which reduces the volume of skin and tissue from the area.

Liposuction

There are stubborn areas of the body where fat can’t be reduced by diet and exercise alone. Liposuction reduces localized fat deposits by permanently removing fat. The procedure can be done in the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, and arms.

Other Procedures

While the previously mentioned procedures are traditionally included in a Mommy Makeover, additional procedures are also available, including a Brazilian butt lift, vaginal rejuvenation, Brachioplasty {removes unwanted fat and loose skin from arms}, and non-surgical procedures like facial fillers, Botox, CoolSculpting and Microneedling.

Who is a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Moms who have completed breastfeeding for at least 6 months, have no plans for any more pregnancies, and are within their average body weigh for their height and age are likely eligible for a Mommy Makeover. It is also important a mom has realistic expectations for the results:: no surgical procedure promises perfection.

Surgery and Recovery

As with any major medical procedure, it’s important for moms to understand what to expect before she decides if surgery is right for her. A Mommy Makeover is done at a surgical facility, and multiple procedures are performed at once. Typically, after anesthesia is administered, the surgeon will perform the procedures in the following order:: liposuction, breast enhancement, and finally, the tummy tuck.

The surgery usually lasts between 3 and 6 hours and when completed, the surgeon will close the incisions. Drains will be kept in place to control fluid build-up and blood loss. The mom’s body will be covered in surgical dressings to help maintain its new contour and control bruising and swelling.

Mommy Makeover patients are usually able to return to work about 2 weeks after surgery, and to regular strenuous activity and exercise after 6-8 weeks.

Self care is such an important aspect of being a woman and a mom. Part of self care includes a woman feeling confident in her body, even after it’s done the important job of pregnancy and breastfeeding. A Mommy Makeover might be just the thing to boost Mom’s self confidence and get her body back to looking great.
