Helllooooo, sweet readers! Wishing you had a little low maintenance fun lined up for this lovely Saturday, but you’re nervous to make plans because you have a newborn, a one year old, a two year old, some 3.5 yr old twins, two dads, one aunt, and a set of grandparents to please??? Ahaha…oh, that’s just us? Ha! Regardless of your situation {family of 2 or party of 13 like we are when our families get together}, you are going to want to move on this secret we’re about to share! It’s the Monster PBJ food truck, and it’s going to change your Saturday from same ol’ same ol’ to a real good, feel good, easy breezy, family bonding perfection of a day!
I realize that Saturdays are usually dictated by double birthday parties, naps, and household duties that never get checked off the list during the week, but if you find yourself in that rare ‘we’ve got nothing going on‘ situation, get on Facebook or twitter to track these guys down, and get there in a hurry!
Last weekend we were tempted to make an all day plan that included the zoo, a park, lunch at a restaurant, a hot air ballon ride {joke!}, but instead, we gave ourselves a “simplify in the new year” pep talk and opted for a Monster PBJ picnic. We found the truck at one of their usual spots – the parking lot of The Menil Collection. We love it there because of a huge grassy spot in between the parking lot and the museum. SO while the dads wait on our order…
The kids can safely run wild, collect leaves, and play a little red light/green light with Papa Don.
Orders are placed on individual paper sacks, and that is how the goods are delivered…napkins included. But be advised that an overload of wipes is MANDATORY!
My kids know their orders by heart and make sure I know “what’s up” on the drive to the museum. Laine :: peanut butter with apple jam and sliced bananas. Olivia :: almond butter with blueberry jam, sliced bananas, and sliced strawberries. This was Maggie’s first visit, so we started her off with a classic :: peanut butter and banana. Sarah and I OF COURSE got one for ourselves which may or may not have been grilled and included melting and oozing Nutella and honey. Seriously…sooooo worth it, y’all! Even my not-yet-ready-for-nuts one year old was able to snack on a banana because they also sell whole fruit!
We were not compensated in any way to write this post – it’s truly just one of our favorite stress free ways to share a meal {and an afternoon} with our entire family. Honestly, when they are parked at the Menil on a week day, I often sneak over for a special after school lunch treat with the girls and Owen. And did I mention these guys drove the truck to my neighborhood park for Laine and Olivia’s 3rd birthday?? They did y’all, and it was a hit! The food is fun, the staff is ALWAYS super friendly, and we’re pumped to support a local business. Today, the truck will be at a private event, but then plans to head over to the Menil from 1:30- 5:00 and will be back again on Sunday for their usual 11am-5pm time slot. Give them a try. It will be your first of many trips…I promise.
Can’t wait to try this!
