Simple Summer Smoothie RecipesSmoothies are the ultimate meal on the go. With a little planning, they can be really healthy and homemade, too! This summer {or all year round if you’re anything like me}, you can whip up these delicious and nutritious smoothie treats for the whole family.

My love of smoothies started when I was a young girl. I recall trips to the mall with stops at Orange Julius and Smoothie King. As I got older though, I noticed that those places didn’t necessarily use real fruit and vegetables in their drinks. As someone who has to pay close attention to ingredients, I need to know exactly what is in my smoothie. Once I discovered how easy they were to make, store bought smoothies went by the wayside. I have purchased this NutriBullet Pro blender to get perfectly blended smoothies with minimal cleanup. If you have a traditional blender on hand and don’t wish to make a financial commitment up front, you can absolutely use it.

For all smoothies, I simply add all of the ingredients to one of the larger sized cups that is sold with the Nutribullet linked above. It is best to put the nuts, spinach, or carrots in first. Any powders {such as collagen or protein} should be added last, after the coconut milk, so they do not stick to the bottom. I exclusively use coconut milk, as I am allergic to milk and lactose intolerant. The So Delicious coconut milk in the green carton is unsweetened, and it is perfect in these smoothies. It can be found in the refrigerated section and is also available as a shelf stable option. I specify frozen fruit as it eliminates the need to add ice to your smoothie and keeps it nutrient dense. Keep in mind that you can always buy fresh fruit and freeze any before it goes bad. 

Simple Summer Smoothie RecipesGreen Smoothie

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 3-4 baby carrots
  • 3-4 walnut halves
  • 3 strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 5 pieces frozen mango
  • 5 pieces frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 banana or 1/4 avocado
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk

Add all ingredients to large smoothie cup and blend fully.

Pink Smoothie

  • 6 frozen strawberries
  • 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup frozen mango
  • 5-6 baby carrots
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk

Add all ingredients to a smoothie cup and blend fully.

Orange Smoothie

  • 1 orange, cut and peeled
  • 5-6 baby carrots
  • 6 pieces frozen mango or peach
  • 6 pieces frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 banana
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk

Add all ingredients to a smoothie cup and blend fully.

Nutty Blueberry Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 tbsp oatmeal
  • 1-1/2 tbsps almond butter
  • 1 tbsp collagen powder {unflavored}
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk

Add all ingredients to a smoothie cup and blend fully.

Simple Summer Smoothie RecipesThis is just a sampling of a few of the smoothie creations you can customize to your liking. The nuts, greens, and carrots prevent the smoothies from becoming overly sweet. If other fruits and vegetables are in season, feel free to use them! Watermelon and peaches are both fantastic in smoothies, and both are in season during summer. If you decide to use kale instead of spinach, make sure to add some fresh citrus juice {lime or orange} to cut the bitterness. If you like adding chia or flax seeds to your smoothies, just add a tablespoon at the end. If mint has taken over your garden, add some into your smoothie {preferably the Green Smoothie above} for a refreshing treat.
