Houston is big on themed events, aren’t we? The holidays are no different! One of the holiday events that we are looking forward to the most is Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, November 30th! Ring in the centennial celebration of Houston’s tree lighting in the heart of downtown. The spectacular event is a holiday tradition of live entertainment, fireworks, Santa and more. A towering 70-foot White Fir tree from Oregon will glow with energy efficient LED lights, shimmering ornaments and a stunning star topper to light up the streets of downtown Houston this holiday season. The Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle will headline the event and other performers include Uche, Theater Under the Stars (TUTS) Elf The Musical, The Best Little Klezmer Band in Texas and more. The event takes place in Hermann Square at City Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Holiday Events at the Children’s Museum of Houston

From Thanksgiving with Santa, to a snow glob family photo-opp, to a Rocking New Year’s Noon… The Children’s Museum has some very special holiday events for your family this season!

Holiday Magic in The Woodlands 

{Ongoing} 

There are so many holiday events happening in The Woodlands this year starting off with the debut of the Market Street Lights on November 21st. You will not want to miss Santa arriving by sleigh on The Woodland Waterway during the Lighting of the Doves on November 23rd from 3 pm to 9 pm.  Plus, no trip to The Woodlands would be complete without filling your shopping bags – check out the huge Woodlands Mall, but definitely save some time for the newer Market Street for every store, boutique, and eatery you can imagine.

Old Town Spring’s Home For The Holidays 

{November 9th – December  22nd} 

Don’t miss the 37th annual Texas hometown holiday celebration in Old Town Spring, complete with beautiful light displays, gorgeously decorated winding paths, shopping, and tons of family-friendly activities. Santa’s charming workshop is typically open from 11am – 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Polar Express Train Ride

{November 17th – December 28th | Departure times vary}

All aboard for the Polar Express in Palestine for special holiday events! Throw on your favorite Christmas PJ’s and experience a magical journey to the North Pole. After being served cocoa and yummy treats, just 30 minutes later your children will be greeted by Santa and all his elves, with a special gift from the jolly man himself.

The ICE at Discovery Green

{November 15th – February 2nd | Various times  } 

The ICE at Discovery Green powered by Green Mountain Energy is officially the Southwest’s largest outdoor skating rink. Special events happen all season long at the ICE in addition to the regular skate times, so make sure to check the website for all the details. 

The Rice Village Sing-Off & Christmas Tree Lighting

{November 23rd -December 24th  | Various Times}

Santa makes his debut at Rice Village on Saturday, November 23rd. To celebrate, Rice Village will have a cookie decorating station, coloring and Christmas wishlist station, and more! The 3rd annual Sing Off is Friday, December 13th from 6-8pm and this year’s emcee is Houston’s up and coming band, The Suffers! Houston-area a cappella groups and choirs will go head-to-head to compete for 1st place. The event will feature food from Rice’s restaurants and local food trucks. On December 14th from 6-9:30pm is the first ever Holiday Art Walk and Battle! This event will feature street artists in teams which will go head-to-head to design a holiday-inspired mural in a timed art competition. DJ MadSound will keep you grooving, Sixty Vines will feature bites as well as food trucks and performances from local chalk artists, live painters, and more.

The spectacular event is a holiday tradition of live entertainment, fireworks, Santa and more. Dickens on The Strand

{December 6th – December 8th} 

The magic of Galveston’s Victorian festival returns yet again! Be transported back in time with elegant costumes, street peddlers, parades, carolers, and plenty of holiday eats and drinks. Bonus :: If you dress up in a Victorian-era costume, your entrance fee is 50% off!

Kemah Boardwalk’s Jingle on the Boardwalk  

{December 6th – 22nd} 

From snow patches and Santa’s Workshop to holiday movies and live music, there’s something for everyone at this holiday celebration. On December 14th, don’t miss the annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade where hundreds of decorated boats cruise down the bay. They also have a huge New Year’s Eve celebration with family fun and fireworks too!

Alvin’s Christmas Train

{December 6th – December 23rd | Departure times vary} 

Hosted by Living Stones Church and Victory Camp, the holidays come alive on this 3/4 mile track accented by over 300,000 lights and Christmas displays, gingerbread houses, and more. The train conductor does recommend purchasing tickets online in advance, but walk up tickets are also available on a first come, first serve basis.

Brenham’s Christmas Stroll and Lighted Parade

{December 7th}

Each year Brenham hosts their fabulous Christmas stroll where you can shop among the beautifully decorated downtown shops, enjoy wonderful eats, and take in a breathtaking lit parade. A completely FREE event that is sure to put a smile on your face as you enjoy the small-town charm of this nearby town. Parade starts at 6pm on Saturday, December 7th.

Christmas Village at Bayou Bend

{December 12th – December 30th | 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm} 

Our friends at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston present a spectacular Christmas tradition as they deck the 14 acre halls of Bayou Bend. Expect over-the-top decorations, thousands of lovely lights, and fun performances. Go sledding down the faux snow slide and toss cotton snowballs with your friends! You can also take pictures with Santa who visit the Christmas Village through December 23rd. They are opening every evening except December 24th and 24th. 

Christmas in the Park at George Ranch Historical Park 

{Every Saturday in December} 

Once again, the George Ranch Historical Park is taking us back for a peek into how the first settlers in Texas celebrated Christmas.  Experience a festive hayride, try wassail and gingerbread, and stay for a special story time with Santa.  Special holiday activity classes will be held every Saturday through the month of December starting December 7th.

Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting

{November 28th | 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm}

The 32nd Annual Uptown Holiday Lighting event will take place on Thanksgiving evening. This free family event features live entertainment, a visit from Santa and a fireworks extravaganza. 

Katy’s Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival

{December 7th | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm} 

This year’s festival will feature a beer garden, food trucks, vendors, a Santa visit from Noon – 4pm, and a Snow Park from 11am – 5pm with 50,000 pounds of snow for the kiddos!

Tamale Festival

{December 7th | 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm}

If you aren’t a native Houstonian, you might be surprised to discover that tamales are a BIG deal around the holidays here. This fun and festive event celebrates the diversity of Houston, and of course, all things TAMALE. Come hungry and ready to dance the afternoon away, while enjoying the various vendor booths and local offerings.

Pearland’s Hometown Christmas Festival

{Friday, November 30th | 7:00pm – 10:00pm} 

One of it’s biggest bashes of the year, the City of Pearland is once again hosting their Hometown Christmas Festival. Expect a gorgeous lighting of their town Christmas tree, Winter Wonderland, horse and carriage ride, Holiday Gift Market, local performances, plus cookies with Santa too. Also enjoy the Parade at 6pm on Saturday, December 7th.

Snowfest Festival

{December 6th | 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm}

Head to the southwest and check out the beloved Snowfest tradition in Missouri City. The annual tree lighting, fireworks, photo with Santa, moonwalks, and of course, the epic 3 lane snow hill are all part of this fun, family-friendly event. The city’s police officers will also be on site to collect new, unwrapped toys for their Blue Santa Toy Drive. Also enjoy the Fun Run and Parade Saturday morning, December 7th.

“A Whoville Christmas” at Monty Ballard YMCA

{December 14th | 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm}

Join your friends at the Y for some old fashioned Christmas fun and let’s discover the true meaning of the season. This event is free and open to the community. Activities provided for all ages!

Kingwood’s Annual Tree Lighting 

{December 7th | 10am – 6pm} 

Head north for “Christmas in the Park!” This annual festival attracts dozens of local vendors sure to get you in the shopping mood, and pictures with Santa are a must! Wrapping up the event, the Town Center Christmas Tree will be lit at 6pm.

Sugar Land’s Annual Tree Lighting 

{December 6th | 5 – 8pm} 

This stunning 40 foot tree is not to be missed! Entertainment and activities are completely free to the public, and this year’s fun will include holiday crafts, face painting, performances by local artists and choirs, and photos with Santa.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase too.

LaCenterra’s Annual Tree Lighting

{November 22nd | 6 – 9pm}

If you are on the west side of town, head over to LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch for their spectacular 51′ foot tree lighting ceremony. With twinkling lights all throughout the outdoor mall, live entertainment and the long awaited arrival of Santa himself, this Katy tradition is a must!

The Woodlands Annual Tree Lighting at Market Street

{November 21st | 6-8pm}

Come see the gorgeous 70ft Christmas tree at the annual “Market Street in Lights”. Kicking off a holiday season of events, the celebration continues with live musical performances, entertainers and holiday carriage rides.

Lights in The Heights

{December 14th | 6:00pm – 9:00pm}

Come out to The Heights for the best neighborhood Christmas festival in Houston! See performers on porches and walking down the street. You might spot Santa and Ms. Claus too! {This event typically gets very crowded so make sure you plan ahead for parking!}
