Smoothies are great year round, but now that the summer heat is in full force – having something cold to drink is especially nice. The best thing about smoothies is you can pretty much put whatever you want in them. And they make a yummy and healthy snack for kids! The mixed berry smoothie is a good one to add fresh spinach to. The banana peanut butter smoothie makes an easy breakfast when you need to eat something on-the-go. You can try out these recipes by tossing the below ingredients into a blender and then tailor them to your own liking from there.
Mixed Berry Smoothie
makes 2 servings
1 1/2 cups berries {I use a mix of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries}
1 container of yogurt
1/4 cup orange juice
1 cup ice
Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie
makes 2 servings
2 bananas
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup ice
Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie
makes 2 servings
1 cup watermelon
1 cup strawberries
1/2 cup yogurt
3/4 cup ice
1 tsp lemon juice
The consistency of your smoothie will depend on if you use fresh or frozen fruit, so adjust the amount of liquid and ice to your preference. I usually use frozen fruit in mine. As soon as our fruit {especially bananas} starts to get too ripe for my liking, I put them in a bag in the freezer to use for smoothies.
