It is already March. How did that happen? Spring Break is just around the corner. Maybe you’re one of those parents who have had a trip planned out for months {that used to be me}. Or, maybe you are like current me and trying to survive with a toddler, a newborn, and two parents with full-time jobs. You get the gist. You just realized that your kids will be out for a whole week and you need to plan something, even if just for a couple of days, to make this Spring Break enjoyable for all. I’ve taken the liberty of looking up a few places that you can get to from Houston within a three hour drive, including where to stay, restaurants, and activities. Whether you want to go see a little bit of everything or more of a small town vibe, I’ve got three options for you!
Austin
Austin is the place to go if you want an activity for everyone in your family. If you’re a foodie, there are tons of great restaurants to be tried. As the capitol of Texas, you can check out the Bulluck Texas State History Museum to learn more about our great state, as well as other museums. And, did you know Austin has a spring pool? Pack your swimsuit and head to Barton Springs inside Zilker Park, made from underground springs – the temperature is perfect to swim in year around. As far as lodging, find a hotel in the center of the city or venture a little further out to Hyatt Lost Pines. It is a 400 acre resort that includes a spa, lazy river and a plethora of other activities like horseback riding and kayaking, which are sure to keep your kids entertained.
San Antonio
San Antonio brings back all the feels for me. I remember visiting the River Walk during summers as a kid with my family. What better way to enjoy Spring Break than to walk and learn about the historic River Walk, grab a bite to eat, and do a bit of shopping? You can also check out The Alamo and other historic sites around the city or visit Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. When considering a place to stay, there are plenty of hotel options overlooking the River Walk, or you can head further out to one of the resorts that have onsite water parks like the Hyatt Regency Hill Country or JW Marriott Hill Country.
Waco
Your kids may not know it, but HGTV and Chip and Joanna Gaines really put Waco on the map in the last few years. There are very few people who are not familiar with them, and while many know them from their home renovation show, but they’ve also built a family friendly destination in Waco called Magnolia Market at the Silos and if you want to get away for a day or two during your week long Spring Break, this is the perfect option. With five kids, the family has created a location that has something for Mom, Dad, and each of the kids. There is a lawn to run around on, food trucks to eat at, a garden, and a bakery, and more. For lodging, you can choose a local hotel, bed and breakfast, or AirBNB.
