Thinking About a Third Baby? Go For It!

Sitting on the fence? Worried about losing man-to-man defense? Another 2.5 years of diapers? The bottles! The exponential laundry increase? ANOTHER five years of shelling out for daycare and preschool?

Y’all. DO IT. If you even put one foot up on that fence, let’s go! Our third baby just turned one, and there hasn’t been one second when we have regretted any part of my our decision. {Maybe I had to do just the slightest bit of dragging my lightly kicking and somewhat screaming husband through that one!}

I’m here to convince you why there is just so much greatness in a third baby!

  1. No one cares if you are late! You just shoot out a “running behind” text and everyone nods/smiles and gives out that FREE PASS!
  2. You don’t have to make baby purees and sit there feeding anyone with tiny bites from a baby spoon. Toddler size chunks and pouches for the win! I know this has a cool name – Baby Led Weaning – but really, it’s Third Baby Survival
  3. Those cute and expensive muslin swaddle blankets. HAHA. You know the velcro is the only way to go.
  4. Dreft. Okay, Why?
  5. You really can get rid of the baby stuff. You don’t have to stuff it in the garage for maybe, or the closet for just in case. Curb + FREE + Lots of Life Left without waxing nostalgic. You have no time to even think about it!
  6. You don’t even hear the crying! You won’t muddle through the controversy or guilt of crying it out. Third babies, by nature, are excellent self soothers.
  7. What milestones? Let me just tell you how freeing it is to not even look at a milestone chart or play the comparison game. When my last baby asks me when he crawled, I’ll be making it up.
  8. EVERYONE loves a caboose. The older kids. The grandparents. The internet. The pediatrician. For some reason, they just love the finality of it.

I spent a part of my third pregnancy worried about how a third baby would affect my family and our routine, but I really can’t say that it changed much other than the amount of love we have to shower on our children. If you are on the fence, and you can do it, I really, really want you to go for it. Arms full, hearts full! Icing on the cake! Cherry on top!

Now, if someone would let me have just one more.

  1. Cute post! I totally don’t mean this in a mean way, but none of the research supports having 3 babies – it actually shows quite the opposite. Parents are happier with 1 or 4, but 3 is actually the “worst” number of kids when it comes to happiness later on in life…just saying, it’s easy to make a decision based on emotions, but maybe moms should take a minute and think about the unbiased implications of more children.
