Tips for Healthier Teeth {Healthy in Houston}

Us moms are busy. We often put our kids, our spouse, even our dogs health ahead of ours.  It’s time for that to change, mamas!  And an easy place to do that is taking some small {and often no brainer} steps towards healthier teeth…which will help with whole body health as well!

Dr. Ramsey, owner and dentist with FLOSS Dental Rice Village, shared these tips for healthier teeth and is offering our readers {not just moms} a great giveaway at his office too.

Tips to Healthier Teeth

1. Brush your teeth before you go to bed.

Really, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, but if it’s been a crazy day and you lost track of time, you never want to go to bed without brushing. And yes, I’m going to say it, you need to floss too. Flossing seems to be the hardest step for most individuals. Make it easy on yourself and buy the floss picks, these cost about 4 cents per pick. And be sure to brush first then floss for optimal care.

2. Avoid sugary or staining drinks {tea, coffee, wine, soft drinks, etc}.

Well, that probably is not realistic in your sleep deprived state! But to prevent staining and sugar sticking to your teeth use a straw when able.

3. Whiten your teeth with a professional.

Over the counter seems easy, but it can do more harm than good – minimal results, increased teeth sensitivity, potential to damage your gums…just to name a few. FLOSS offers complimentary professional whitening for all patients. The whitening process will not only brighten your smile but decrease tooth sensitivity, increase enamel strength, and help prevent cavities! For more information on whitening, check out our this article.

4. Go to your dentist every 6 months…and every 3 months when pregnant.

Most insurance companies cover 2 appointments a year. To ensure that pregnant moms are taking good care of their sensitive gums, FLOSS provides an extra complimentary cleaning while you are pregnant.

5. Straight teeth lead to a healthier mouth.

Most teens paid their dues sporting the colored braces. But there are still many that have teeth out of place and are afraid of the appearance and discomfort. Well, there are many options now that are virtually invisible. By straightening your teeth, you provide less space for plaque and bacteria to hide – both of which lead to cavities and gum disease. On February 20th, FLOSS is hosting an Invisalign Day with huge discounts on Invisalign exclusively to patients who come in and start treatment on this day. So call now to schedule a consultation to discuss your options.

Becky K
Becky grew up in Houston, leaving only for college and an internship, but the humidity called her back! And it's a good thing - because shortly after moving home, she met her husband Chris, St. Louis Cardinals fanatic and {wife proclaimed} genius. She stays home with their two (soon-to-be three) girls: Karis, a girly girl and tenacious toddler, and Moriah, smiliest baby alive & Texas Women’s Hospital 10,000th baby in 2012. When she's not in the middle of a tea party, play dates, or potty training, she writes devotions with Sacred Holidays, teaches at prisons and women's ministry events and is a certified MBTI Life Coach {with Orbiting Normal}. She loves hot Houston summers, coffee creamer, dance parties with her family, nail polish, iced tea, reading {although it’s a lot of picture books these days}, and their church family {Bayou City Fellowship}! She would love to connect with you on her personal blog {www.beckykiser.com} or through Twitter {@beckykiser}, Pinterest {@beckyjkiser}, and Facebook.
