Top 9 Home Decor Trends Coming in 2019

We are thankful to Bridgeland for sharing these fantastic design trends with our families. While this is a sponsored post, all of our thoughts are proudly our own.

As the holidays approach, you may be considering giving your home a fresh touch, putting the plans in place for a major remodel in 2019, or perhaps considering a change of home address altogether. While I usually let Joanna and Chip do their thing when it comes to home design as I furiously take notes on the sidelines, I have combed through Pinterest boards and home design blogs to bring you some of the top design trends to carry us into 2019.  If you are considering a full relocation and fresh palette to work with, Bridgeland in Cypress has modern floor plans for today’s family which provides the weekend home interior designer, like me, the opportunity to add a touch of personalization to an already fresh and gorgeous home. Take a walk through their community which offers over 11,000 acres of trails, parks, and lakes, tons of family-oriented activities, and some of the top home builders to discover why this area is the right mixture of trendy, family, and comfort.

So what’s coming in 2019 to a home near you? Check out my top trends to consider:

1. Natural Wood in the Kitchen

Natural or distressed wood has been making its way into homes for years. Whether it’s a Joanna-worthy shiplap wall or wood floors for days,  the look and feel of wood in our homes is a comforting one. Now we are seeing the look shining through in it’s natural, lightly stained glory in the kitchen.

2. White and Natural Tone Rooms

It’s a white out! I remember the days when designers begged people to add color to their walls (Trading Spaces, anyone?). Now we have come full circle. It’s time to white out those walls again and add soft spa-like elements of natural tones and earthy colors.

3. Bring the Indoors Outside

Let’s face it. We live in Houston where the mosquitoes are as big as golf balls. And the weather isn’t always conducive to lounging outdoors. But we are adaptable! A good solution that works well for us is to make the outdoors as comfortable as possible with swimming holes, fans, serene settings, and comfortable loungers. This trend allows us a little peace and comfort when we need a little retreat.

4. Tapestries and Hanging Fabrics

I thought tapestries had their day in history, and it was a done deal. Hear ye! Hear ye! They are back! The softness of textiles instead of framed paintings adds a flowy element to the room. You will see these popping up, or hanging around rather, everywhere this coming year.

5. Mixed Metals

A simple way to spice up your kitchen design is to utilize brushed brass or brushed nickel in your hardware. From doorknobs and pulls to light fixtures and faucet finishes, this stylish look will elevate any kitchen. Pair it with two-tone cabinets, and your kitchen will be a hit.

6. Instagrammable Greenery

No pressure here. Add some greenery that creates an aura of a tropical oasis or desert succulent retreat. And keep it alive despite prying little toddler hands. Your local craft store offers good alternatives to the natural “homegrown” variety.

7. Black and bold

The black wall trend has had some traction in 2018, and it looks to be growing in popularity. If you are looking for a statement wall and to add an element of drama to your dining room or entry, think black. Add minimalist but statement decor, and you drive your point home :: your home is beautiful, modern, and minimalist because all the clutter is stuffed into drawers and cabinets. Or maybe that last part is just me.

8. Sliding Doors

The barn door trend persists! However, it can take on a more modern, sleeker feel when adding some window elements or more industrial fixtures. The sliding door fixture provides functionality to a fun design element. It maintains privacy but easily opens up a space when pulled back.

9. Industrial & Crittall Style Doors & Window Frames

This one is a personal favorite of mine. The simple steel look adds an industrial, clean look to any room. I love that builders are incorporating these into more designs.

Pin away, mamas, and enjoy getting lost in the possibilities for you and your home
