Parents, doing your job right now as a parent, employee or employer, spouse, head of the house, and teacher – often all at the exact.same.time – is tough. But I’ve got something that will help you.
And it’s structured, engaging, and energetic. It’ll leave you sweaty, out of breath, and maybe wanting even more.
{No. It’s NOT THAT!! Gosh. We’re totally G-rated here}.
It’s exercise – but not the kind you do on your own. I’m talking about the instructor-led type that gets your kids {and you} moving and grooving for 20 to 30 minutes at a time.
Now, I know … you’re likely thinking, “I can.not.do.another.thing!” And I get it. I do. But hear me out – because adding structured exercise to your list of things you need to do can actually HELP you with all the other things.
That’s because 20 to 30 minutes of daily physical activity leads to better mood, better focus, better self-control, better grades and of course, a healthier body. {And right now, we need our bodies to be as healthy as possible}.
Gwen Dewar, Ph.D., states a number of scientific experiments in her article in Parenting Science supporting these benefits of exercise. From studies showing mice who ran 3 miles a night having massive brain growth compared to their fellow rodents who did little to nothing to research showing exercise creates new neural connections, her article makes it clear that exercise can do so much more than increase our cardiovascular endurance and strengthen muscles. And this is even true for children with special needs such as ADHD.
Because I believe in this so strongly, I’ve been running live family martial arts-based workouts to get everyone movin’ and groovin’ – and I’ve dropped a few of them right here that you can do as a family or let your kids do while you go do something just for you for 30 minutes!
{This one is my favorite because I got fancy and have some super fun surprises at the end!}
Remember – if you do plan to do these workouts, you understand and accept all risks associated with this type of physical activity to you, your family members, and your property.
If you’re not into martial arts style workouts, then you need to check out Joe Wick’s #PEWithJoe.
Joe Wicks, a {very cute, easy on the eyes} British Nutritional and Exercise Coach, offers free home workouts on his YouTube channel. During this crisis, he’s also running a P.E. Class that’s live 9a London Time {that’s 3a our time, so you can catch his replays}.
Finally, if you don’t like either of those options, you can find a whole variety of workout classes geared toward kids and families on YouTube – just search for kid-friendly workout!
